The "How to do Oldhammer" Thread

Finished at last! I have managed to finish off my warband. I'm not up to developing a bit of background for them perhaps with my next project.

First up the banner holder for the chaos warriors, a converted Chaos Marine from Space Crusade.

This is the leader of this warband a rescued chaos warrior who had lost an arm and now has a dark eldar organic / mechanical tentacle. He is actually much bluer in the flesh.

This is the complete warriors and goblins.

And finally the warband.

I've really enjoyed the project especially with the constraints, I'll go on to my next better prepared. The question is what to do next? Should I start my small animals warband or as it is Orktober start my Hyborks?

All comments and suggestions encouraged.

I like the bright colours on the Chaos Warriors!

I also like the idea of replacing the helmet orb with a skull. I might borrow this idea myself...

Yes a very chaotic one at that! I was practicing using washes and inks and went a bit overboard - is that possible with a chaos warband?

TBH when I saw each figure individually I thought "meh" but en mass the warband looks fantastic. Exactly what a lot of us wanted to achieve as wee nippers, a cohesive and striking warband packed with conversions and original ideas. Rainbow of chaos and goblin cultists? Slaanesh FTW!

Thanks for the comments, they do look better en masse. The next warband will be featured in the showcase or WIP threads. I suppose it should be WIP as all my stuff seems to be a WIP

here's another batch, all in production figures to the best of my knowledge: terezinya and familiar by reaper (picked up from spirit games by mail order as most of my metal reaper miniatures have been) and the fenryl ark 009 armee squelettes (purchased from battlefield berlin).

About bloody time there was an update here. Had some painty time with my daughter today (she’s home sick from school). Not much have happened with my hobgoblins those last 10 years but hey, now all of them have skin basecoat!

They look great (and the banners made me laugh  ). But mainly kudos for getting them finished. I started this 11 years ago and finished 3 figures...

Do love your scarecrows and I love a good pumpkin head. We're pondering what kind of full size scarecrow to add to the 2026 Halloween madness that is our driveway. Think I might have the same witch/pumpkin model in the pile somewhere. Anyhow good to see the units in their splendour.

thank you.

i actually competed the initial entry in 2015, then increased the 'spear' unit to 20 in 2020. the two-handed unit was also added to over the years and also brought up to 20, along with a one-handed weapon unit in 2024.

thank you.
It's the cello for me ^_^
double bass. the musicians have a jazz triumvirate in their spare time.

I admit, that bass does look quite small. Maybe half size? (My nephew plays a 3/8 and my new stand partner plays a 5/8 I think. 1/2 is very much a thing. I play a 3/4.) But unless he's seated I'm inclined to read it as a bass. Anyway . . . it's a cool miniature. A Birth of the Cool miniature. ;)
