The "How to do Oldhammer" Thread

For anyone that wants to know, check up 'Big mouth Billy Bass' and think "Oh, I remember when that was a thing" ^_^
 
as you may know the game at salute was never organised.
bumping into @lenihan at bring out your lead last year, he suggested we try and bring the game to the tabletop at this years event.
whether you painted up the requisite figures all those years ago, or will do so between now and august are you interested? if so, should the game be fantasy (wfb2 or 3) sci-fi (wh40k:rt), one of each, or a mix of the two?

Hi all - just a heads up: it looks like there might be a risk to this date (31st July - 2nd August), which _was_ the scheduled date for BOYL ‘26. I’m not saying it is and I’m not saying it isn’t - just, that it was meant to be that date and there is a risk that it may move to later in the year. For those folk looking to book something, please make sure you have the means to cancel or reschedule (don’t book things you can’t get a refund on). For some of you, I will have told you differently last week - this message supersedes all the other ones. I’ll let you know as soon as I know more. We’re still planning to run BOYL … there is just a risk to the 31st Jul - 2nd Aug date.

Normally the community here is first to know. It's already a bit late to find out, early/affordable bookings in Newark will be gone by now.
 
^Yeah, but I already missed a pretty good sale on airline tickets. Doesn't mean I won't come, but it'll be an easier lift with my CO if I can let her know when I'm requesting leave soonest. ;-)
 
So my concept for this back in 2014 (?!) was to paint highlanders from East Albion using in-production miniatures that could form a warband in their own right but also contribute to my then-goal to do McDeath (because obviously you need a lot of clansmen for that and it was never going to be possible to afford enough of the originals)

This is what I have of that plan in a finished/ ready state; 8 of the 21. There are a few more in Liverpool that I'm guessing I left there because they needed more work to look even half decent. And plenty of unpainted highlanders too. So it wouldn't be too hard to finish this project... although the need to paint more tartan doesn't fill me with joy! Still, I figure I should stick to what I started.
 
Nice to see something Albion related, I'll be watching this closely. Sounds like a fun project.

I'm eyeing up Albion myself, needs a Knightly crusade or two I say. Though the Isle of Wights is a tempting target for my noble brave knights, less lore to headcannon around.
 
As there's renewed interest in this project I thought I'd bump the simple guidelines set by Whiskey Priest back in 2014 (!)

"We each make a warband - a tiny army - a posse, based in the Warhammer world. A maximum of 21 figures. Two units of 10 and a hero or any similar configuration."
**Figures to be in production from a current supplier.**

We then get together to play a narrative GM led game with our warbands - most likely at BOYL. But obviously you can participate in the challenge on this thread even if you're unable to make BOYL/ not sure yet.

Basic idea is to show that Oldhammer can be easy and accessible and doesn't have to be all about pouring money into ebay to buy vintage models!

P.S. We should maybe have a badge that can be proudly worn by the couple of people who completed the challenge - twisted moon and inchmurrin (sorry if I've missed anybody else). And then by any of the rest of us who complete it!

Yep, obviously it wasn't my challenge originally but the way I interpreted it was that it was a positive encouragement to look beyond GW and think more broadly and creatively about what constitutes oldhammer
