twisted moon's 2022

with tobcon out of the way for another year, i've turned my attentions back to painting some figures.

Transhuman Kekoa1a.jpg

space marines from the transhuman kekoa chapter, forming part of the imperial garrison on st. andrews and across the caribbean viii sector.

Transhuman Kekoa1b.jpg

i've painted them in camouflage, but it's turned out quite subtle, so i don't know if it will be clear in the photo's. i watched some nail art videos to get inspiration for some hawaiian patterns.

Space Marine Veterans box.jpg

they're metal figures, lightly kitbashed (just some weapon swaps really) from this box.
i was given these by friends of a friend when they moved house, and discovered their (now adult) son had abandoned them. from the description, i thought i was getting some wfb imperial halbadiers!
second half of the squad to follow, but i'm going on holiday tomorrow, so it won't be for a while.

second half of the squad. tactical marines this time.

Transhuman Kekoa2a.jpg

these are plastic and unmodified, but otherwise much the same as the first half.

Transhuman Kekoa2b.jpg

... and here's the box these came from, along with the weapons i used to modify the first five (and the plasma gun for the jokaero).

some more scenery:

Silos1.jpg

an mdf kit i picked up cheap at a show a few years ago. i added the supports to the red one, as designed it would have been the same as the yellow version.

A game ALWAYS looks better with some nice scenery. :) Great choices!

yeah, i think they turned out alright, although i forgot to deploy them in our most recent game.

Doh! I've done that. More than once, even. :D Excellent reason to play More Games! ;-)

i've been quiet on this thread both because things have been busy in the outside world and my hobby time was taken up producing my submission for the first oldhammer artisan's contest. you'll have seen the entries on the voting thread, and i suspect you'll have been able to work out whose was whose.
here's a break down of mine.

Star Bastard Command1a.jpg

the mounts are a metal terror bird from ral partha, a resin space wolves cyberwolf from games workshop (i got another voucher for my birthday - £50.00 bought me three figures!, this is the first i've painted), and a 3d printed carniverous dinosaur i picked up at battleground wargames show.

Star Bastard Command1b.jpg

the riders all have airfix legs from the quadcycle kit i showed in february. the standard bearer also has a (shortened) torso directly from that kit, while the others have airfix baks and space marine veteran fronts, they all have space marine veteran right arms, the musician also has a space marines veteran left arm, the champion one from the chimpanzees i converted to jokaero, and the standard bearer from a stargrave kit (either mercenaries or troopers). the musicians head is from the frostgrave barbarians kit, whilst the other two are from the space marine veterans box again. saddles are milliput whilst bridles, straps etc. are wine bottle foil. the speakers on the musician are bits of wood, with car body mesh for the front.

Star Bastard Command1c.jpg

here's a final picture with the original figure i showed last year, who has finally received a name.

the mobile infantry are based on the stargrave mercenary and trooper kits, although the heavy weapon trooper has another (shortened) airfix body.

Star Bastard Troopers1a.jpg

Star Bastard Troopers1b.jpg

the two lasgun arm's (left) are imperial guard from inchmurrin. they're so beefy i painted them as powered armour and paired them with space marine left arms. the missile launcher and shotgun arms are from the stargrave kits. the leftmost helmet is from a space marine veteran, next to him a stargrave head and the two on the right are frostgrave barbarians. they both have space marine helmets on their belts.

all stargrave bodies this time, but the leftmost trooper (with another shotgun) has (cut down) airfix legs.

Star Bastard Troopers2a.jpg

Star Bastard Troopers2b.jpg

the flamer is again an imperial guard one courtesy of inchmurrin and painted as powered armour. the boltguns are from the space marine veterans box. all three have space marine left arms. helmets as before.

on to their transport:

Star Bastard Transport1a.jpg

the insect is a pop! movies starship troopers tanker bug that i got for christmas (relatively recently, but not necessarily last year).

Star Bastard Transport1b.jpg

the howdah has a card base with ramshackle games armoured panels and door, with coffee stirrer struts and a wine bottle foil strap. i ran out of time before the submission deadline to add a rope ladder, but might get around to that in the future.

Star Bastard Transport1c.jpg

ramshackle games gripper plate forms the floor of the howdah.
i think this counts as another contribution to my 'big year'.
that's another faction completed for games in the caribbean viii sector.

thank you.
here's my sole contribution to orctober, at least so far.

Snotling Pump Wagon1a.jpg

the original snotling pump wagon.

Snotling Pump Wagon1b.jpg

i got this when it was first released, but never got further than assembling it. it had collapsed in the intervening years, so it got a rebuild along with a coat of paint.

Snotling Pump Wagon1c.jpg

in the interests of humiliation, i've entered it into the golden gobbo contest, and a few more angles can be seen on that thread, if you're interested.
i'll see if i can get anything else goblinoid done before the end of the month.

You finished a greenskin model for Orctober!

thank you.
i've managed to slip in another one too.

Orc Zweihanders3a.JPG

sorry about the photo. quality; the light is very poor here again today.

Orc Zweihanders3b.JPG

this is a northumbrian tinsoldier figure from their nightfolk range; he was a christmas gift from my beloved.

Orc Zweihanders3c.JPG

i've painted him as a (bearded) orc to join my two-handed weapon unit.

proof of concept for some road tiles.

Road1a.jpg

this side is for use in urban environments.

Road1b.jpg

whilst this will double as rural, or (with two tiles side by side) as duel carriageway.
made from self-adhesive vinyl tiles i bought at wilko's perhaps as much as a decade ago.
i've stuck the tile to newspaper and added a light coating of sand. going forward i'll paint the newspaper black first to prevent the print showing through the grey paint.
got to work out a way that i can consistently paint the road markings around the corner pieces. a pair of compasses seems the obvious solution, but I don't know if i have any that will extend far enough.
i'll be working on these for the rest of the month, or until their done, whichever comes sooner.
