^Oh, those Airfix kits are a nice touch! I'll have to look those up. As to suitable drivers, Curtis has some seated orc legs that you could use to convert figures (particularly but not exclusively green in color) to vehicle crews. And while 1/48 is suppose to be quite a lot bigger than 28mm I find the proportions of "heroic" 28s of the typical Oldhammerish sizes work pretty well with 1/48 stuff. (And vice versa. I've got a bunch of 1/48 aircraft pilots I'm planning to convert. You don't really see that they're too tall when they're sitting.)

i'll have a look at those. i do have the 1:48 figures that came with the kit i might be able to hack about, if i can find some suitable upper bodies to fit.
meanwhile, scabies punks have recruited some reinforcements.

these are grenadier future warriors savages which i picked up from the tabletop sale at battleground last year for the princely sum of £4.00.

although somewhat lacking in firepower they make a nice addition.
i've tidied up the base on the middle figure since taking the photo. and will add some tufts when i get round to producing some more, as well as giving them name tags.

i backed the star schlock kickstarter at the squad leader level.

here are the first five astroguards, of what ended up being a ten figure unit. i included the two female troopers in this batch as a nod towards femuary.

i'll be using them as a mercenary company, bloogers (las-pistols) and a blazooga (las-cannon) for this lot.

^I completely missed that one. Those remind me quite a lot of the old Citadel Paranoia security miniatures. Lovely stuff! The helmets are particularly cool. :)

yes, that's what got me interested in the kickstarter (an then the price was right).
here's the second half of the squad.

this time with a heavy stub for rogue trader games or auto-laser for renegade scout.

... and here's the whole squad together:

i'm working on some support elements and have an idea for transport, although that might take some time to come to fruition.

i decided the mercenaries would be good recipients for my two remaining orca battle suits.

these ones have the full armament: twin heavy stubbers and a heavy flamer for one and missile launcher for the other.

although the gunners' uniforms are quite different, i think this can be explained by their different role and there's enough similarity to tie them into the infantry.
i'll try and get on with their transport now, but am still undecided whether to give them some robot support, using the stretch goals from the kickstarter, or if they should be painted up as random elements.

With the Paranoia feel I'd go for robots I missed the kickstarter unfortunately and your work has really tempted me.

thank you.
i get the impression the designer is in it for the long haul, so i imagine the figures will be for sale commercially in the not too distant future. he's still working through posting out the kisckstarter pledges at the the moment though.

well, since you insist.

left to right we have a power bot, a scouter bot, a space cadet and rod roebuck (space ace), all free stretch goals.
the two humans will be acting as the crew/drivers/pilots for the vulture company's transport.

work on that is progressing very slowly, but i have ordered a base for it which might arrive today and inspire me to get on with it.
i have another three scouter bots, which will get painted up as bystanders.

there's some very slow progress on the transport. in the meantime i painted these to keep me ticking over.

wild dogs from warbases painted as wild dogs for frostgrave or whatever else they may be needed for.

i'm fairly certain joseph mccullough wasn't envisioning african wild dogs when he wrote this particular random encounter, but they were the first thing that came up on an image search and i was taken by the striking markings.
i appreciate you can't see them very well in these photo's.

thank you.

The dogs dazzel patttern camo is just too effective to photo well

yeah that, that's definitely it.

i've finished the manufacturing work on the vulture company's transport and have got it undercoated, but am having technical difficulties saving photo's on my 'phone. when i get that resolved i'll post some pictures.

it dawned on me i could use my tab. so here is where i am with the transport for the vulture company to date.
i forgot to take a picture of the raw material in the state i got it from a car boot sale a few years ago for the princely sum of £1.00, but here it is after i'd started taking it apart.

i did take a picture of the (almost) finished construction, but that didn't save and i didn't realise until after i had undercoated the beast.

i'm not sure when i'm going to have a chance to get painting, but there are a couple of additional bits that i'll paint separately and add just before the wash stage.

... and it's done!

multiple coats of paint were required to get a decent opaque finish over the undercoat.

so even when i managed to sit down to paint it took quite a while.

i'm pretty happy with the final result, though.

How big is that? Looks plenty big enough to be a nice little titan.

it certainly counts towards my big year! about 270mm from the tabletop to the tip of the aerial. it's on a 200mm diameter base.
i was seeking to channel the following walkers (sorry for the blurry picture, but i'm sure you know the one i mean) rather than adeptus titanicus.

here're a couple of picture with some others from the vulture company to give context.

it's a tight squeeze, but the full reinforced squad is carried inside, whilst the support walkers are loaded on the elevator platform and can provide a rearward arc of fire if required.

meanwhile the multi-laser covers the front and starboard arcs.

I'd say you've succeeded spectacularly. That's about as solid an Oldhammer walker as any I've personally seen. The mess of ladders is very ice. The platforms are appropriately rickety. The weapons fit is very nice. The paint looks good. It's a great walker!

thank very much, i'm glad you like it.
i've started work on a family of jokaero, which i've generated from the random tables in rogue trader.

i need to get some more chimpanzee figures. i'm aware eureka uk and north star models both have a pack in the uk, are there any others you can suggest?
i'm also on the look out for a couple of lasguns, a plasma gun and a shuriken catapult, and maybe a flamer (though i may be able to knock one of those up myself), preferably of rogue trader aesthetic, if anyone had any leads.

This is shaping up to be an interesting project. Very much looking forward to the rest of it. :)

As to suggestions for pongid aliens . . .

Paul Field of Blind Beggar Miniatures had an orangutan looking technician, but he's closed down his shop for a while. Not sure if he plans to reopen it. (He still has a facebook page, so it might be worth checking it out or following it.)

Curtis Fell has a couple over at Ramshackle: Ramshackle Monkeys

They're a little smaller than some of the other primatoid aliens I've seen, but there's a lot of variation in terrestrial primates anyway. Even inside of a species. (My wife is literally half my size.)

All that said, I look forward to seeing where this project goes. :)
