twisted moon's 2022

Sometimes a combination of different materials looks best. Looks like you used some wire for the spine of the thing, which is smart. maybe use green stuff or miliput to rough in the shape, which I think is again what you did? Then slowly layer on the details with whatever seems best. Styrene, green stuff, milliput, ball bearings, chain, wire, whatever. Anyway, I think you have the idea. This is surely a lot better than my first attempts. My first plasma gun was literally a fishing weight with some holes punched in it with a nail and my first heavy bolter was the handle of a motorcycle model, I think. Your jockaero are going to look great. They're fun and cheerful. :)

yes, milliput over a wire armature.
here's the last of the airbourne jokaero.

Jokaero10a.jpg

not sure if i've said before: the flight packs are gw space marine back packs with the directional jets replaced with truncated (yellow) rawl plugs.

Jokaero10b.jpg

i find something particularly comical about the idea of a combat accessory on a flamer. that three of my ws1, flight pack wearing, jokaero have combat accessories is even more amusing.

I hadn't thought about it, but you're absolutely right! I love it! Keep it up with the flying monkeys. Now all you need is someone with an axe to grind and a nose to grind it on and some greener than usual skin . . . Wait. Sorry. Wrong story.

Bringing the aero to Jokaero since 2022!

here's my attempt to carve a shuriken catapult (mostly) out of plasticard:

Shuriken catapult.jpg

... and here it is attached to the penultimate jokaero:

Jokaero11a.jpg

... with a combat accessory added.

Jokaero11b.jpg

this was another already painted one to whom i just strapped equipment.

the final jokaero generated dreadnought armour. i didn't want anything that was obviously imperial, eldar or orkish, but couldn't find much else of a suitable size and price. as a result i made my own, which ended up looking a bit like a killer kan. oh well, at least it's obviously not a rogue trader era ork dreadnought.

Jokaero Dreadnought build.jpg

here's the build before painting. the body is an old (non-disposable) contact lens case, the orange nubbins are bits i cut off the vulture company's walker, multimelta courtesy of inchmurrin, other gun from alternative armies ion age, powerglove arm from wunkay miniatures astroguards kickstarter, while the autopistol arm is scratch built from milliput, cocktail sticks, a pin and plasticard. the viewing port is made from more scraps of plasticard, and the hoverjets are from the space marine backpacks which i modified and used as flightpacks on the other jokaero. the satellite dish is from scotia grendel; it wasn't stuck down at this point to make undercoating easier.

Jokaero12a.jpg

i generated five weapon points for the dreadnought which then split down to three basic and one heavy weapon. i decided to swap two of the basic weapons for close combat weapons, hence the power glove and autopistol. i haven't quite decided what to count the other gun as, but am leaning towards an autogun to give a longer range option. a boltgun would be the other obvious choice based on the aesthetics of the sculpt; the reason for my indecision is that i have other jokaero armed with both autoguns and boltguns, which look quite different to this weapon.

Jokaero12b.jpg

the hatch is from blotz.
only the transport left to do now - that has turned out to be a medium hoverer. i have some ideas but need to sort out the details.

here's another group shot:

Jokaero group6.JPG

... and a shot of how they may be deployed on the tabletop:

Jokaero group7.JPG

... though i'm still thinking perhaps the melee weapon armed jokaero should back up the dreadnought. that would mean swapping the twofer of plasma gun and needle pistol for the jokaero with autogun and bolt pistol, which puts two of the long range autoguns in a unit that's likely to get close to the enemy. i'm torn. not that any of them should be getting too close to the enemy since they're mostly rubbish in hand-to-hand.
there were a number of duplicates in the base models used for these.

Jokaero duplicates.jpg

here they are side by side so you can see what i did to try and differentiate them.

Did you roll all of that up? That's some serious dedication there! I missed that small detail. (Honestly, even if you just picked it all it's dead serious lovely work.) I love the dreadnought. Making it look in-universe, but different is . . . hard. I've kind of done it with some Ork dreadnoughts, but I feel like that's cheating since they're an "anything goes, rule of kool" kind of people. The fact that yours appears to float is a particularly nice touch. And I assume it's supremely techy and tough. (Probably has a pocket orbital cannon strapped on there somewhere. Jockaero digital heavy artillery?) :) Anyway, fantastic! Love the group shot.

here's the transport, which pretty much concludes this project.

Jokaero transport 1a.jpg

doors were added after undercoating, and the weapon after the doors.

i randomly generated the number of characters, their levels, number of advances and final profiles; the size of the rest of the family; the weapons and equipment for all the jokaero with the exception that i swapped the minor hero with missile launcher's laspistol for a jokaero digital laser and gave the powerboard riding hero a bionic arm; i also generated the stat's for the powerboard and flightpacks; i randomised the dreadnought's profile and weapon distribution but not the weapons themselves, instead going with what i had (i've pretty much decided the basic weapon is going to be a storm bolter, by the way); likewise i randomised the family's transport (note to others thinking of doing anything similar: do this before you start converting jokaero, it didn't happen but i'd have been pretty gutted if i'd rolled up a load of bikes after making all the figure infantry) and weapon distribution, but decided not to add the two basic weapons and that the heavy weapon would be a heavy stub.

it was really the point of the project, i've got a group here that i would never have designed myself.

I love the dreadnought.

thank you. i hope you like the hoverer too.

Jokaero transport 1b.jpg

the hull is a pot from the fake bonsai trees i showed last year, and the skirt is made from tear out foam inserts from a carry case (in this instance for storing essential oils) with corrrugated card reinforcement to hide the joins. bull bars from a toy and cut down to size, passenger and back doors from blotz with the driver door made as a mirror image from plasticard, windows and weapon mount from scraps of plasticard, roof bars are sticks, possibly from dunkable hot chocolate blocks, cameras from ttcombat, ladder from milliput and staples, vent from ramshackles games, and fire extinguisher from scotia grendal.

Jokaero transport build.jpg

uhu proved the best for sticking things to the hull, but plastic cement and super glue were deployed too.
i was thinking of adding a load of stowage to the roof, but then couldn't be bothered spending time digging through my junk to find suitable components. instead i'll consider making various removable components that can be added as required by a particular scenario.

here's a final picture of the completed project.

Looks like an excellent van for your A-team!

i was thinking of offering a spAce-team van for the challenge, but while i was trying to work out how to produce something that would be collapsible for ease of postage someone else beat me to it.

I'd say you have a winning team there.

thanks, i'm looking forward to getting them into a game.
here's the last of the wunkay scouter bots along with a couple of gunbots from rogue stars. i picked these latter up to bulk out the order from north star when i purchased their chimpanzees. i also got a couple of packs of copplestone castings future wars figures, which will be along at some future point.

Robots1a.jpg

the wash came out darker than i'd intended, which has flattened out the colour on them, but never mind.

Robots1b.jpg

i've really liked these gunbot sculpts since i first saw them, so am happy to have them in my collection. my current plan is to have them as part of a bounty hunter micro-faction.
the last five wunkay kickstarter figures are currently on the paint desk, and i hope to get to them towards the end of next week.

i seem to have developed a habit of painting single figures.

Sci-fi Civilians4a.JPG

admittedly these last few star schlock figures are all individuals, so don't really lend themselves to batch painting.

Sci-fi Civilians4b.JPG

this bloke's pose screamed out for a power board, although i may have been predisposed after making the jokaero one.

Sci-fi Civilians4c.JPG

i've been meaning to say for a while that these figures are now available for general purchase: https://www.starschlock.com/type/miniatures, for anyone interested.
some paint has been slapped on the remaining four, so hopefully i should be able to post them soonish.

here's the last of the bounty hunters for now.

Bounty Hunter1a.jpg

another wunkay figure from the astro guards kickstarter.

Bounty Hunter1b.jpg

i'm envisioning his weapon is a needle gun.

Bounty Hunter group1.jpg

here he is with his robotic companions.

the last of the astro guard kickstarter figures.

Alien civilians1a.jpg

a trio of mismatched alien civilians.

Alien civilians1b.jpg

i might take a photo. of all the kickstarter miniatures together, now they're painted, if i remember.

here are the copplestone castings future wars figures i mentioned.

Corporate Babes1a.jpg

they're painted to add to my organised criminals.

Corporate Babes1b.jpg

nice figures as always, although some of them do have quite prominent mold lines.

... and the second pack.

Men in Black1a.jpg

i ignored the memo. regarding their fashion preferences.

Men in Black1b.jpg

i'd like another five females to add to this faction. can anyone suggest where to find suitable figures? grenadier future wars was my first point of call, but all their suitable (and therefore suited) figures are men.

another couple of colony 87 figures. starship crew enjoying some planetary leave.

Sci-fi Civilians5a.JPG

picked these up at vapnartak this year.

Sci-fi Civilians5b.JPG

lovely figures once again to help populate spanglish town, and maybe act as the focus of a scenario.
