twisted moon's 2021

more snotlings; spears and missile weapons this time.

Snotlings6a.jpg

these are all citadel once again.

Snotlings6b.jpg

a newer one on each of the spear bases, and the piggyback riding slingshotters are also newer, larger, sculpts.

Snotlings6c.jpg

thanks both.
the light has been poor for photography, but here's my best presentation of the most recent snotlings.

Snotlings7a.jpg

armoured chaps and a mage finish off the infantry component (at least for the time being).

Snotlings7b.jpg

the ones in the jug and the barrel are warmonger orclings (which came as ramage in foundry mercenary orcs packs); the other two are citadel.
the poor weather has put paid to my hopes of getting the pump waggon done this orctober, so here's a shot of everything i have managed to paint for the month.

Snotling infantry.JPG

i hope you can see them okay.

after a break last year the el(e)ven(th) month is back. i decided i wanted to switch from five units of five wardancers to three of ten including standards and musicians.

Sidhe13a.JPG

from left to right; citadel witch elf from 2000, grenadier fantasy warriors wood elf, two 2000 witch elves, citadel wood elf from 1988. all from ebay.

Sidhe13b.JPG

i think the wood elf musician is from skarloc's wood elf archers regiment of renown.
my intention is to make some skirmish unit bases for the wardancers.

Great work! They work really well as an ensemble. Using the witch elves is a neat idea I wouldn't have thought of.

thank you. yes, this iteration of witch elves blends in pretty well, much better than the '90's one's i've also used.
hobby time has been a bit restrictive over the past three weeks, but what time i have had i've used to make a treeman to add to the ranks of the bright curse. he's quite top heavy so i may make him a larger sabot base to sit in, possibly magnetised

Treeman1a.JPG

this face was intentional.

Treeman1b.JPG

this one i discovered during the painting stage, and then decided to add the teeth to make more of a feature of it. it also lent him his name (two-faces, in cornish), which i assume is what the elves / sidhe call him, as his entish name is no doubt long and unpronounceable even for elves.

Treeman1c.JPG

the body is a twisted wire armature coated with pva soaked kitchen roll, with sand for moss. the canopy is wire wool sprayed black and then covered in home made flock (in three shades of green) attached using spray adhesive; once done i rolled this in watered down pva, and dried it in the oven at the lowest setting, to try and keep it all in place, before attaching to the branches. the toadstools and bracket fungi are milliput and the ball fungi fishing weights.
i'm contemplating some ritual humiliation by entering him in the golden gobbo.

They both have some toenail fungus, but the fellow with the angry face has quite the infection on his leg too. Maybe that's what put him on the wrong side of the grove this morning. Fantastic work! Some most fabulous treemen!

thanks herr doctor. there's only the one of him sp.
here's my contribution to the 2021 legacy nurgle/zombie signup, although the photo's rubbish and you can hardly see the paint work. it did come out fairly grimdark, but not as much as it appears here.

Kryptovski Death Guard1.jpg

it's a 55512 kryptoski death guard figure from the witchlands faction in flintloque. it came as a free sample with an alternative armies order in the early years of this millennium and i've been pondering what to do with it ever since.

Kryptovski Death Guard2.jpg

hopefully whoever ends up winning the lottery will like it and think it fits in well enough with the rest of the warband.

although arguably the fella above could mark the start of deadcember painting, these are the first deliberate efforts for the month.

Ghouls4a.JPG

some citadel ghouls from 1998.

Ghouls4b.JPG

i picked up ten these off ebay back in february for the princely sum of £2.74 each including p&p with the aim of getting my ghoul unit warhammer armies legal.

here're the second five.

Ghouls5a.JPG

painted up in the same greyish skin tome with a touch of purple and the green cloth that ties them to my nightmare legion centred army.

Ghouls5b.JPG

i couldn't decide what the one on the far right is supposed to be wielding. i toyed with it being a joint of meat for a while, but ended up opting for it just being a club.

Ghoul unit2.JPG

where's the whole unit of twenty together.

A suitably ghastly gang, nice work.

thanks inchmurrin.
here are my last figures for 2021, five cavalry from the lord soth's charge box set by ral partha. i've had these for at least twenty-five years, so it's good to start getting some paint on them.

Skeleton cavalry1.jpg

i cut off the short, integral, spears, drilled out the hands and added steel pikes cut down to the approximate length of the lances from citadel's skeleton army box set. i'll be mixing the two, along with a handful of others in one big unit, and will probably swap riders and mounts around a bit too in future batches.

An excellent way to herald the death of the old year! Lovely scene with them riding over the ploughed furrows... and I think you were spot on to get those lengthened spears in their hands. A lot of hard work I bet, but it looks just right.

thanks lenihan, that's a nice compliment.
tally for this year = 213 figures and 6 pieces of terrain / scenery compared to 260 figures, 5 pieces of terrain / scenery and a terrain mat in 2020.

You guys got some stamina hehe Everybody paints hundreds of minis annually. I don't think I painted more then 400 altogether  But I did strip paint from more then 2000 minis haha

Keep up the good work!
