Boyl 16 Rise of Morcar, or HeroQuest the battle or BFFG

The other thing I need to sort out is the Morcarometer. If this is the image we are going for then I can get on and make it.

Clan Myeri and their allies are getting ready... but currently in utter disarray! The next 4 weeks are dedicated to organising units and painting, there must be a force to match Golgfag's Barbarian hordes!
I've decided that if I manage to finish everything else my Wizards of Morcar miniatures are getting painted for this event. :)

Fimm,

My barbarians are hardly a horde at this moment in time (maybe next year 8-) ), given actual numbers of figures, more a large skirmish force - take out the big beasties and they've more than likely shot their bolt! But, there's the challenge - try killing the big lumps, quite the un-know, as I've not seen that many on a table playing Warhammer!

Good luck

Paul / Golgfag1

Big enough Golgfag, big enough!

I think the largest contingent on the side of law will be the combined oldworlders, they will be a horde or are they civilized enough to be a grand army?

Fimm, loving the Fimmir and massed HQ goodness. I've given up on getting most of my HQ stuff finished though may have a go at a gargoyle. I am getting a unit of the AHQ henchmen painted up.

I have a zombie dragon to paint for the undead which is big but minuscule next to those mammoths.

Darn it I just decided to get some of these and lets see if I get them finished in time:

You know one of the things that went wrong with Warhammer prior to AoS?

The monsters took over............................... just saying............................................

Yeah... but realistically how many times do you play a game big enough to get the HUGE BEASTIES onto the table? ;) There's got to be some scale reference for the small chaps!

I was only being silly, the problem GW had was that the big beasties were in every army, even tiny ones.

Hi chaps

I've been contemplating jumping into this game, but having just reread the whole thread, I have some suggestions:

1. I think you need a gm - is anyone of you going to gm this thing?

2. I think the gm needs to help sort out the armies, deployment and marching order - there are some splendid strategic opportunities that can be explored this way that I suspect will be missed if you just 'pitch and play'

3. Following on from that point, I think each side needs some objectives (besides stop/save Morcar). I would propose that these are set up privately by the GM and only shared with the side in question (i.e. the only person who knows ALL the objectives will be the GM).

4. Regarding the character discussion (1 lvl 20, 2 level 15's, 4 level 10s, etc, etc) - this seems like a very clinical, list buildy sort of way to do this? So far, I'm only aware of one character (Bran the Blessed), who is a great character for the story, has no points cost and is a very special character. It's not my game, but I'd much rather see players saying what characters they would like than what characters they are entitled to. Start with your army's commander - what's his name? Does he have a 2IC? That's that guys name? Any cool idiosynchrasies? Does he hate halflings because of something in his history? Is he afraid of dogs? Who wants to stop Morcar (as in, what's his name? What's his reason?)

5. I think you're right to ignore points and just bring what is painted - but if you are looking to control characters, just provide a points allowance for the characters.

6. If you're looking to control magic items - make them random. Have each player generate something like d6+1 and then randomly generate what they are and who they're for. This is an excellent leveller for anyone prone to min/maxing.

7. On the point of magic items, I think this is something the GM would need to look at for the forces as well.

8. Can everyone participating list (roughly) the figures they have? I see that some have done so, but that would give any erstwhile GM a standing chance of formulating some sort of survivable scenario for this.

9....which raises a good point - who is participating now?

Anyway, just some food for thought. I won't be broken if you don't want to pursue any of it :)

I'm happy to help with the pre-gming work I've raised above.

A quick search of the attic found the following:

Empire / WOR types
34 archers, 30 Pike men, 48 halbardiers, 10 crossbow men, 23 knights, 20 Hobilars & 2 canon with 3 crewmen each, total of 171.

Orcs & Goblins
50 wolf riders, 4 chariots, two snottling wagons, 4 bolt shooters, 1 wyvern, 2 stone throwers, 60 Black orcs, 50 mother crushers, 50 Orcs, 40 Arra-boys, 30 Half-orcs, 10 Giants, 40 black mountain boys & 50 Ogres - 320 figures plus models.

Haven't dug out the goblins or trolls yet, but say another two hundred figures

Barbarians
88 warriors, A few horse, 1 Rhino & 5 Mammoths (THIS MAY HAVE CHANGED BY THE TIME OF BOYL! ;) )

Chaos
72 Monks & various beasts
( All the above painted)

Hope this helps

Paul / Golgfag1

See you all at BOYL, off to Scotland.

We woudl love to have you along for the ride Weazil. Will yo be bringing forces or grabbing a command form those already on offer? Or perhaps GMing?

I will be bringing:
Chaotic
Large numbers of Orcs and Goblins no commander as yet. Possibly Fimm as he is also bringing O&G and is on the Chaotic side but there are so many there can be more than one commander. Named character shoudl be the son of the son of Ulag.

Two large boxes of chaos: Commander I assume will be jprp who is also bringing chaos stuff. Again plenty to go round for other commanders.

A bit load of undead though not as large a contribution as the other two. Led by Littlelead person who is bringing further undead.

If I get them finished various giants.

Law/order:

A large empire army to add to Quick Bens forces. To include the wizard from hero quest and to include Sir Ragnar from HQ as the army general.
Sizeable Dwarves, as yet not commanded. The hero quest/advanced hero quest dwarves to be included. Need names.
Wood-elves with high elf allies to include both the HQ and AHQ elves. I'm planning to command these.
A small but growing Bretonnian army. No commander but probably include with the wood elves. So at the moment commanded by me, happy to relinquish to anyone turning up.
A unit of boarder prince infantry made up of the AHQ retainers commanded by the AHQ fighter and wizard. I love this unit, I'm just finishing it and was planning to include in my army.
In case nobody else paints him the Barbarian from HQ to add to Golgfags horde.

With everyone's armies that are already coming I think the key will be knowing when to stop and which units sit this one out. We only have a day!

GM, I'm happy if someone wants to GM though it means giving up an opportunity to participate in what will be quite an experience, GM by consensus does work. I do have plans for the scenario and will post them up later. If people wish to embellish go for it though with such a big game keeping things simple is the key. In leu of HQ wandering monsters I am planning a couple of things: a hag possibly living in a hovel who fires off random magic in random directions every turn, a wandering unaligned jabberwocky. Individual objectives, I don't see why not though the power stones should ensure there is plenty to concentrate upon across the whole table. Even without a GM simple objectives could be set up by an individual and for the theme shoudl be HQ/AHQ related but kept simple. Perhaps Sir Ragnar is determined to kill the son of the son of Ulag. Perhaps the son of the son of Ulag is determined to kill as many of the heroes that killed his dad and grandad as possible? Scouring the HQ books should give a good number of names and objectives.

Magic items, I'm inclined to reiterate, don't take the piss but if people want points we can do that. I think it woudl be fun to translate HQ items into the game, some could be owned by either side, presumably some of the quests for said items were successful others not. I do however like the idea of random numbers of items, perhaps to keep things themed a little people could write out their desired items, roll the dice and then determine which ones they have at random?

Marching order, to decide on the day, I thought people could elect to use any number of trailing forces. Probably very useful for the defender who will be setting up first and will have to react to the attacker. It makes sure some of your characters are off table at the start. just imagine the horror on your opponents face when his heroic cavalry charge has cleared one of the power stones and then on marches the Ogre horde right in front of them.

Perhaps some of this needs discussing over beer?

Golgfag is bringing loads I think. Including Golgfag.

I have a bunch of the HQ ones too. Painted but painted a long time ago. If I find time I'll improve them.

For The forces of Disorder I'm planning on bringing

Skaven (commanded by me) led by AHQ baddie Praznagr, Prince of Agony that5 AHQ describes as being the Daemon General of the Horned Rat (not sure if a Daemon prince or a Greater Daemon yet, Daemon prince would probably be more fitting).
Skaven to include:
150+ Clanrats
20 Black Skaven
16 to 20 Stormvermin
28 Plague Monks
14 Rat Ogres with Pack Masters
40+ Slaves
20 Gutter Runners
a smatrering of Censer Bearers
10+ Poisoned Wind Globadiers
6 to 8 (maybe more) Warpfire Throwers
10 to 12 Jezzails
A host of 20(ish) Giant Rats
Characters and Wizards

Orcs (to be added to the Orc contingent)
2 x 20 Goblin spears
34 Goblin Stikkas (divided up)
Goblin King on Chariot (Grom mini but not being Grom)
Orc Shamen on Wyvern
20(ish) Orcs Boyz
3 Orc Stone Throwers
2 Orc Bolt throwers

Chaos (to be added to the Chaos Contingent)
Nurgle Sorcerer
Great Unclean One
14 Plague Bearers
Tzeentch Sorcerer
Lord of Change
10 generic Lesser Daemons (if I can get them done)

Side of Light

High Elves (to be added to the Elf contingent)
3 x 20 Kith with spears
3 x 10 Archers
2 Marine Bolt Batteries
6/7 Silverhelms (depending on characters)
20 x Warrior Kin with Great Weapons
16 x Guard (with halberds)
2 Mages
2 Great Eagles
1 Griffon riding Lord

Empire (to be added to Quick Ben's Force)
5 Pistoliers
8 Knights
3 Wizards (2 Grey and 1 Bright (not that Colour applies))

Hi chaps

Okay, so if you're open to some GMing, I'd like to have a stab at that.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about Heroquest - I've never played it. So, can someone give me a list of the dramatis personae? Not just names, but what race and type of character they might be, for instance? In fact, anything useful about them at all.

For example, who the hell is the son of the son of Ulag? The answer might be (made up, I don't know): 'Hobgoblin fighter. Hates barbarians. always has a 2 handed sword.' Something as simple as that.

Also, does anyone have any 'feature' scenery - something that looks like the kind of place such a summoning might happen? Ideally, I'd like to have two or three 'feature' pieces.

Secondly, can I get a list of the scenery that would be available? I'm comfortable there will be a ton of trees, but I'm interested in water features, rivers, roads, bridges, buildings and anything else. I don't want to tell you what I have in mind, so I can't just ask for what I'm looking for.

Finally, as I understand things, this is the list of armies involved:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

This list is editable, so could I ask you to update the thing with your forces' details. I am not asking you necessarily to indicate you are the contingent commander, so I've left those as 'open' slots, but indicated who actually owns the force on another column.

I've done my best to put the rough figures from what I've read on these forums. Essentially, I don't care about the kind of infantry, just add it all together. Cavalry and ogres/troll sized things all count as cavalry. Creatures is where the bloodthirsters, monsters and war elephant like things go. Eagles too.

Thanks!
