Boyl 16 Rise of Morcar, or HeroQuest the battle or BFFG

I have 25 HQ Fimir which I'll bring along with the rest of the clan. I'll try and pick up some more before the event if I see any going cheap. I also have about 30 HQ orcs I can bring if needed.

All very welcome additions to the Baddie side of things.

I did little bit of research (or rather I found my AHQ book at the weekend) and Praznagar, Prince of Agony, is described as the Horned Rat's Daemon General.

Not sure if I should roll up a generic Greater Daemon or if I should generate a Daemon Prince using the RoC rules.

Off the top of my head I can't remember if Daemon Princes automatically get wings or not, either way I think this may be a more appropriate way of representing him than as a Greater Daemon.

Maybe I'll dig out my RoC, roll up a Daemon Prince and put his rules and stats up in this thread for all to see so I'm being transparent.

What's people's thoughts?

The HQ bases are wide enough for orcs and small Fimir but not quite deep enough, easily sorted with either some plasticard or just leaving a gap between rows. The size of HQ bases will only be an issue for goblins and or the heroes if we decide to use them.
If you could bring the orcs that woudl be awesome Fimm, it will save me a job for sure, also they will be better painted. Forgot to say how cool your giant fimir is, do you have specific rules for him or are you going to treat him as a giant?

I was a little naughty and treated myself to the following off ebay:

$_57.JPG

The were a bit pricey but a bargain for three unreleased metal HQ figures and very nicely painted too. I plan to have a bunch of the plastic painted up so the warrior has a whole unit to lead. I'll just class them as general old worlder but given my almost total lack of Bretonnian infantry they may end up as Brigands for the game.

Snicket, sure roll up a daemon prince and let us see the results. Or for simplicity sake roll up a random greater daemon, up to you.

Not sure about better painted, but they looks ok. :) The big chappie I dunno. Will have to have a look through the 3rd bestiary. Don't think Giant is quite right, but maybe as a low-powered daemon with no magical capacity.

If he has no magic how about an Ogre character and chuck on some mutations like a weapon tail? Actually a Fimir character that has been daemon princed up, I think size increase is in there somewhere, add a few more useful bits.

Looks like a sneaky way to get Daemons on the table without summoning to me  .

If some of your main characters are to be daemons maybe we should look into changing daemons are immune to non-magical weapons to the 4+ save thing?

I can't help what AHQ quotes my guy as being.............................

Is there not a points cost in BOB?

How do points help us in a no points game?

Summoned monsters that cannot be injured by magic weapons is one thing, multiple high stat characters that have the same advantage in a no points game are starting to cross the don't take the pee line. Or perhaps you have to summon them first?

I thought we were still having a rough idea of points, just not making it the be all and end all.

I'm all for the vulnerable but with a daemonic/ward save. The magic nature could be represented by the fact that still get their save no matter what hits them be it a cannon ball or a spear. Only thing that ignores the save would be magic (be it magic weapons/missiles/spells).

If that still seems to much like taking the pee then I'll drop daemons. Hoping to get the right spells, wasting time casting them and then binding them in game that our wizards need to concentrate on summoning Morcar feels like a waste of time, by that time Dragon Kin and Treemen will of taken us apart and we'd only just maybe be raising our fire to fight back with.

But summoning is the most fun... I'll have a good dig in the book tonight and see what I come up with. There's the Demonomaniacs from Dying of the Light (large, mutated Fimir) but not sure how big they are, I'll look.

Pre-game casting is your friend. Auto success and get to place your daemons on the pitch at the kick off. I think the slightly toned down 4+ save against non-magic but no save against magic of 4th ed is where I was going. Otherwise the forces of order are going to have to equip even our lowest level 5 with a basic magic weapon.

You do have the option of having fewer and or lower level casters doing the summoning, Indeed I'm sure you could work out the optimum number and levels given an acceptance of a given number of extra turns sacrificed. That is to say if it looks like the side of order are going to make you take six rather than five turns in order to get just an extra five points can one of your summoners stop and cast something? I'm hoping it injects a bit of game into the whole thing. For the side of oredr it isn't going to be enough to capture one stone and sit back, two or three are essential.

I'm going to put out a plea for terrain soon, I thin a basic map would be a good idea. We don't want to be put completely to shame by Harry and the Grog lot with their snow table.

Also some more ideas on the actual scenario.

That's where my brain was in the first place, either paying for them or pre-battle summoning - in game summoning needing a pentagram or whatever just sucks balls.

I meant like a 4+ sorry, hence why I said "save" not invulnerable, just wasn't sure where you wanted to put the level, maybe different for lesser daemons.

What about my idea for scouts? Giving them the advanced set up rules of 4th. If we do a scouting game first no one will use their scouts for actual scouting, they'll use a flyer so they don't come last. Much better I think to go for the hidden advanced set up for anything designated a "scout" in WA (i.e. Glade Runners, Seekers, Shadows, Gutter Runners, Forrest Jaeger etc.....).

Or say we do have a scouting phase but only things designated a scout can take part.

I can provide two GW battle clothes and a few trees & hills and a sacrificial alter piece with suitable offerings  and a few other bits & pieces rings! Anybody else?

If there's room in Harry's car (remembering he's bringing the Coldhammer terrain!) I can bring some bushes and trees and stuff.

Had a think about the big Fimir and since his name is Bran the Blessed (after the character from Celtic myth, and so I can drop Flash Gordon quotes) I've decided to make him a normal Fimir Warlord (25 Hero) who has the blessings of the Chaos gods, hence his extra size and features. Applying the relevant characteristics (Mace Tail, Great Tusks and a combination of Overgrown Arms, Legs and Torso) he comes out with a profile like this:

M6 WS8 BS5 S6 T9 W8 I6 A5 (+1 Tail attack, +1 Gore) Ld9+3 Int7+2 Cl8+2 WP8+2

I've mediated the combination of overgrown features a bit, otherwise he would have been very slow and very tough! This seemed to make sense to me. I'll give him Heavy Armour as well, and the normal rules for covering mist ought to apply- even though they're crippling for single characters he might be able to make the Stupidity tests! What do you think?

Paul: great that you can bring the two cloths, with my own that s enough to actually cover the table. Extras that yo mention always welcom.

Fimm: anything you can bring I'm sure will be useful. If you are willing and there is room if some of your new scenery like the big treas and the tor made it onto the table I thin it would be awesome. I understand if this is neither practical or desirable. The big guy looks great, he will be a terror if the stupidity is passed. Perhaps we can have a random even that makes the sky overcast and help him out.

Snicket: You do know I only had two tree men in my army and one wasn't even painted. However you are so fixated by them I didn't want to let you down and have significantly upped their number.

Thanks for the terrain offer though.

I expect shed loads as others will be involved.
