the sweaty red expanse of desert outside all our doors, filled with spider, snakes, sharks, drop-bears, sheep-thieving hobos... hey, actually, Australia is pretty rad, why don't we use that more??
I watched Wake In Fright recently. It made me actively not wanting to visit Australia, for fear of waking up in the yabba. :) it's a cool country though. Basically a post-apoc wasteland already!

I grew up in Lexington, Kentucky. But even though it's in the USA, we still has a castle. I blame that for screwing up my perspective.

I guess Asslessman has made an interesting point though. Even within Europe architecture and, generally speaking, art is so different that it is sometimes difficult for us to make an abstraction. You talk about rainy countrysides, but for an Spaniard for example the rule is thinking of mostly dry landscapes with castles in more warm colours. We should open a thread with pics of our own for inspiration!

I love the turn this thread has taken.

I hate to say it but I'm disapointed... I see no koala, crocodile or kangaroo on this picture. Have I been misled or what ?
Good thing is I prefer cool old models to crocodiles and kangaroos so it's that bad actually.

On a more serious side, I'm really wondering how you guys come to vibrate to the old fantasy imagery when you've grown outside Europe. What I mean to say is that most british and french are familiar with rainy countrysides with old castles in ruin everywhere, so I believe on one side those are close to us which makes them more intriguing when placed in a fantasy setting while it probably has a more exotic tatse to you. I hope it does not sound like a shoevlfull of clichés , Imay just be overthinking a little

Funny you mention it, but there is a crocodile in that picture ;) ( yes, really- and it's visible, poking it's jaws out from under the palm near the path)

You're absolutely right, but there is a castle near where I grew up too- called Paronella Park

It's probably more Conan than Arthurian...blew my mind as a kid.

Ps I've since managed to bend that chainsword into place

Really interesting discussion though!

Funny thing about Australia is that most of the population live in cities on the coastlines, not in the bush/outback.

...Plus the travels that I have done in the old world (England two times, Spain, Ireland) are massively inspiring. From my POV Europeans seem to take for granted the enormous amount of inspiring stuff around you...at least the ones that aren't gamers... ;)
Thats my .02cents

I found the food in Spain to be massively inspiring.
Lots of good stuff in the New World, but you gotta travel a few thousand miles to get a rounded taste of it. From the bayou, to Vegas, to The 405 (Where time actually stops!), Glacier Natl' Park, giant redwoods, & 40K-esque megachurches, we got it all baby!
That being said, Europe is chock full of great stuff & I'm still amazed Switzerland hasn't been bought by Disney & filled with oversized, plush critters.

Instead of pushing on with the Marines like a good boy, the 'stealer Cult has been getting a little love.

Is there anybody who doesn't have this mini?

It is indeed. The hybrid with the power sword is a classic. as is the patriarch with the big medallion. And they have painted up nicely!

Nice to see those cultists, it's one of (very) few modern releases that tempt me. Good job, Bruno! How were they to put together?

Yes I'm the same, generally impervious to modern Citadel minis but the cultists are an exception- first 40K release in zog knows how long to make me sit up and take notice.
They are two part snap fits, so unfortunately they're stuck in that pose unless you're converting.
These 5 are the booster pack, another point in their favour is that they are about the cheapest miniatures you can buy from them.

Favourite miniatures of mine as you know Bruno. As I bring them to every game of 40K we play….. lol.

Nothing wrong with that, they're awesome!
Never got why it took them so long to make them, really ( discounting scavvies, muties etc)
I bought 4 of the booster packs to make a unit of 20, it's a shame they don't sell the ones from the Dark Vengeance set separately as ideally I would have liked to avoid the sculpt repetition.
I even tried to not paint them so bright!

that cult is looking fantastic, count. i am well jealous!

Me neither. :(

Although I think that's my fault... I might have traded him... :?

Yet another nudge towards the 'have to have a genestealer cult' cliff! Nicely done!
