Assorted Minis

It's my first attempt at a Marine Dreadnought, things are coming along but it's not been assembled yet.
It certainly has a nice amount of weight behind it!

I've finished the plastic Tactical squad now, except for the Sergeant- they can be led by old faithful for the time being.

and added a banner to the Captain, but it's not turned out so well...the yellow is killing me

Also knocked out a Chaos Android

and based the good old SC Chaos Dreadnought- which will be pressed into the service of my Genestealer Cult

I love the BA officer, nie attention with th emarkings and all. The android made me smile because I painted mine exactly like this back in the day

I like the dreanought with th egreyish tone. Now that you mention genestealers it's true his "head" sort of looks like the head on the plastic hybrids, I'm sure some pruple and black flame pattern around his face could make him a little more genestealer. Otherwise he is just s good like this because he looks like the regular robot sentry to be used in lots of different opportunities.

I've seen them ( SC Dreads) look pretty decent in Khornate colour schemes but I just wanted him to resemble the cover art and ED-209 from Robocop as much as possible ;)

You defnitely can't get any better reference than these

Oh yeah
As pedestrian as the Robocop remake was, seeing the ED-209s in action again was very cool, even if they lacked the charm of the original.
Unfortunately the model I got had the weapons glued on, otherwise I would have used the honeycomb missile launcher on it in place of the assault cannon.

One of my fondest memories as a teenage wargamer was when I used to put such a model (chaos version fo rme please) on the table, thinking "showtime !"

The mere weight of the model and the fact that you could just let it live its own life was just too good (chaos version even had silly rules to make it go berserk). Nothing beats the feeling you get from moving a big chunk of metal like this on a table. When that piece of etal is a robot scupted by Jes Goodwin, you're just the prince of the universe.
Your paintjob brings back good memories of red era, now get the damn thing stomping on orks !

It is lovely in all its red glory  One of my favourites model ever (well any kind of dread with sarcophagus, not the modern ones with those tiny bobble heads)

Yes! Those pinhead Ven. Dreads are really not to my taste either, same goes for the Forge World Horus Heresy Terminators

It's definitely an iconic model, and it thirsts for battle after being awakened from it's long, unpainted dormancy

( Blood Angels versus Orks soon JB! )

Thanks a bunch man!

I had it pointed out to me that the Dreadnought had a 2 on the banner and a 3 on the hull- something that I had not noticed before but once pointed out was all I could see.
Convinced I was going to stuff it up, I painted a 3 onto the banner ( and yellow in the BA insignia on the hull)

And I've just about finished this Apothecary, which has been an absolute mongrel to paint

Love 'em both, in particular the banner on the Dreadnought. Is it freehand? It is majorly impressive.

I was going to ask - you seem to do most of your photos outside (based on the background). What time of day do you go for and what kind of exposure to the sun do you try to achieve? I have tried the same but given its Sydney, too much sun overlights the photo I find...

Cheers mate, the banner's a printout but I freehanded the 3 on there and painted the black.
I wish I could get a banner looking that good freehand!

I have real trouble getting the lighting right indoors, I usually take my pics around 3 in the afternoon, though earlier in the morning before the sun is out but before it really starts beating down is good too.
Here's the spot where I take them, I'm crouched where the red line is drawn, with the sun at my back.
I usually block the direct sunlight with my person, as direct sunlight overlights it as you mentioned.

I hate to say it but I'm disapointed... I see no koala, crocodile or kangaroo on this picture. Have I been misled or what ?
Good thing is I prefer cool old models to crocodiles and kangaroos so it's that bad actually.

On a more serious side, I'm really wondering how you guys come to vibrate to the old fantasy imagery when you've grown outside Europe. What I mean to say is that most british and french are familiar with rainy countrysides with old castles in ruin everywhere, so I believe on one side those are close to us which makes them more intriguing when placed in a fantasy setting while it probably has a more exotic tatse to you. I hope it does not sound like a shoevlfull of clichés , Imay just be overthinking a little

Isn't it obvious... he said he usually photographs in the afternoon, ie after lunch. He ate them all, for lunch. See?

I fully understand your point...and my answer to the question would be....Tolkien. Plus the travels that I have done in the old world (England two times, Spain, Ireland) are massively inspiring. From my POV Europeans seem to take for granted the enormous amount of inspiring stuff around you...at least the ones that aren't gamers... ;)

Thats my .02cents

The man is right, Tolkien inspired all us indoorsy-type kids, much more than the sweaty red expanse of desert outside all our doors, filled with spider, snakes, sharks, drop-bears, sheep-thieving hobos... hey, actually, Australia is pretty rad, why don't we use that more??

Yes of course, the books, films, etc... all convey that spirit I agree. I'm always amazed to see some people going to Broceliande forest (forest where a load of the Arthurian / round table legend has taken place in french Brittonny) and just seeing old trees and mossy stone... Same goes the other way, Ardyer told me he lived (or a friend of his) in the map of Fallout 3 and that it was wuite OK accuracy wise...

Aaaaaanyway, this could be the subject of another thread so I won't derail any further.

Brilliant models Bruno but what happened to that chainsword ?
