The "How to do Oldhammer" Thread

credit has to go to my beloved - i was just going to give him a triangle made from bent paperclip until she pointed out the possibilities of the pose.

so here's the painting on the final batch of figures; undercoating:

here's the flag for the unit. I purloined the image from the interweb, added the text, and then stuck the printed paper onto lead foil from the neck of a wine bottle using copydex; some smudging resulted from my attempts to remove all wrinkles from the gluing process;

i then painted the eye's iris green to match the colour scheme, and overpainted the blood droplets and fleshy bits in red:

i then touched up the black and white where they had sudged and added the unit colours in a band either side of the image. i also overwrote the text with a gold pen:

i've subsequently cut the flag out and painted the three colour bands on the back prior to attaching to the flag pole.

Love the banner!

Double Bassist FTW! I suggest that you can find a way to spear a crow onto the top of the standard.
Fimm McCool has made some nice blind crows for his Marsh Demons that would work for topping off the banner pole. (I was thinking of using one for that purpose myself, although probably not skewering it!)

Are you in the UK, twisted moon? I can surely spare one, as he doesn't sell them separately and I won't need all 3.

Very nice, Twisted! The banner turned out great. I suppose it's time for a shot of the whole group soon? Hint hint ;)

thanks for the words of encouragment everyone. my painting's pretty basic, and my photo skills worse, but since the entire point of this thread is about making oldhammer accessible, i think that's okay.

not a bad idea. I currently have no idea how i'd do so though.

that would do it. thanks very much for the offer - i'll pm you.

that's the plan, but i want to get them all fully based up (and maybe matt varnished, if i can procure some) first. if i hadn't already started with the basing i would post a photo of all fifteen line scarecrows, but i have. i also still intend to post the background and suggested rules.

20 complete! Almost there...although, there's a real danger with this sort of project - for some unknown reason, I've now been unable to resist adding lovely old lead skaven to my collection. Well, I only needed to add 20 skaven slaves to meet the minimums, and then, well, plague monks are cool, and of course you need some models from clan Eshin, and well you get the idea; lots more to paint in any case. But without further ado - painted models: first up the rat ogres. Reasonably pleased with the results here, particularly the irritated/infected look near stiches and runes.

And their handler. This is my third attempt as object source lighting, and I'm quite pleased with the results.

Last up the warpfire thrower team. I couldn't resist turning the big rune on the side of the tank into a yellow safety label.

Thanks! The bases are initially painted with a wet blend of black and dark green. I then glue on loose leaf tea. The tea is then washed with athonian camoshade. Once that's dry, a wash of biel-tan green. Followed by a wash of guilliman blue glaze with a few holidays deliberately left in. Dry brush with a bit of P3 Ordic Olive, and finish with a clear gloss.

technical difficulties (probably compounded by incompetence) has so far prevented me from posting finished pictures; but i'll keep trying.

Here are some more retained knights that I will be using as "space marines"

....love the guy having a smoke...

Cheers,

Blue

They are a good selection for this challenge Blue. He is a great sculpt that fellow, there aren't enough nonchalant looking wargames models if yer asks me!

Hi!

After a long hiatus on my How to Oldhammer project, here's a quick update at last with the first five of my Slann braves finished:

This leaves only five more figures to paint before completing the project! Hurrah!

I must admit it's been a bit of a struggle to get into the swing of painting lots of almost identical figures but the end is in sight now and I am also breaking up the tedium of painting a whole army by doing the odd Rogue Trader inspired gubbins in between.

All the best!
