The grand army of King Bruno the Questionable (Bretonnia)

Just need to highlight a few bits and actually paint the heraldry on the wounded chap and do the bases then these guys are done. Most fun I've had painting in ages.

Deffo ordering a pack of foot knights next month. Old minis just hit different when painting compared to new minis.

That's great and yes they do. I think so anyway.

Finished my Bretonnian casualties, shame my cameras a bag o crap and can't focus on anything smaller than a small car.

I'm glad I got a bag of autumn grass, now my bases match my games table.
Slightly annoyed I bought a huge tub of blue paint to start on some river sections, just found a load of blue paint I don't remember buying. Guess I'm making a lot of rivers then.

Can't really see the details, but at least I painted something and actually enjoyed myself for once. Can't wait to paint up those foundry Brettonian spearmen.

The chap in white and blue is technically the first mini painted for my BOYL26 army, he will be leading the spearmen, next month I'll get some foot knights (debating what pack to get first, there's some great sculpts and a few meh ones in each). After that who knows what delicious old sculpts I'll go for.

Nah, I get frustrated by it, I think it's because I try painting entire squads/regiments at the same time. I've had less stress with Bretonnians though, might be due to variations in heraldry, I'm not painting the same colour scheme on every mini like Space Marines or Guard day after day. Painting 30 Peasants is bloody tedious though, I'll be glad when it's over, like Zombies it's a lot of effort for a unit that's gonna die to a stiff breeze.

Also not very enthusiastic about painting horses, not a fan of them in real life, dodgy things, so not feeling inspired to paint them. That and I gotta think about natural horsey colours, then there's socks and other markings to worry about. Why did I choose the one army that relies on horses? Why do I torture myself?
Gonna be worth it when it's done though. 😆

Been thinking about Chaos recently as well, but after seeing those ooooold 'Tulsa Doom' looking minis (can't remember who painted them off the top of my head) I want that aesthetic, not the current style. Unfortunately there's no chance I can acquire minis of said style with my funds. Can you think of any companies that do similar stuff? I want my Chaos to be more old school sword and sorcery and less whatever generic looking crap they sell now.

I'm gonna have to start sculpting again ain't I?

I'm not very good with prioritizing food over non essentials. Just borrowed some cash off my Aunt for some scran and ordered these. How did that happen I wonder.

Torture Chamber sounds interesting, I need to watch more Hammer films without Vampires in. Unfortunately Hammer will have to wait, just found a YouTube channel with all the G1 Transformers and Masters of the Universe cartoons.

My inner child is bouncing off the walls right now.
Fun fact, watched Transformers the movie again a few weeks ago, still choked when Optimus died. No matter how old I get that scene gets me every damn time even though I'm a lifelong Decepticon fanboy.

Quick terrain check to see what fantasy suitable stuff I have, the bare card will be a river and lake eventually and I have another 10 trees in the post. Somewhere I have a few more stone wall sections for the graveyard, and I have some renedra grave sprues stashed away.

That leaves hills, a bridge and a small grail chapel to do. Oh and a Trojan Rabbit, been hoarding coffee stirrers like they are going outta fashion.

Edit

Photo gets to 98% then craps out. Grrrr, imagine a table with some scenery on half finished.

Just remembered I have those Foundry Bretonnian Spearmen and Knights on the way, better tidy my painting area ready so I can crack on as soon as they arrive whilst I have motivation to paint. Gonna need to dig out my bag of bases as well.

Might have a look for any pictures of the knights painted up in the old gw colours, I'm running out of ideas for heraldry.

Just discovered Medbury Miniatures. Some of the prices are a bit spicy but damn those are some sexy sculpts. Victrix, Foundry and Medbury are going to financially cripple me over the next 12 months.
I'll regret nothing.
Probably paint nothing as well. 🤣

Finally got 20 Foot Knights and 12 Men at Arms done, basing them now.

Then I need to finish off 10 Bowmen, 10 Crossbowmen, 10 Men at Arms, 10 Foot Knights, 30 Peasants, 10 Brigand bowmen, 12 Cavalry, couple of Wizards, Mounted Lord and Trebuchet and that's phase one finished.

Then there's another's 36 Cavalry and over 100 infantry to start. Not including stuff still on the sprue.

I got this.

Got an email notification from royal mail, foot knights will be here tomorrow morning. Lovely jubbly. Got spare bases and rattle cans ready, clearing all nearly done minis off my painting table, no distractions.

Still no idea on heraldry, but I have 12 hours to figure it out.
