The Age of the Imperium

Looking forward to see how it ends up looking should you decide to repaint it whether it's yellow or white.
And since I don't know a damn thing about 40k I'll most definitely quote you on that should need arise.

Well credit where credit is due as they say. The auction house very kindly got in touch with the seller who said it was fine to email them, so I've exchanged a few lovely emails with the seller and painter of "my" (feels weird saying that when I didn't paint them) Eldar.

Anyhow they were painted by a talented chap called Robin Ewbank, who from our emails looks to have had a similar baptism in the fires of Wargaming as many of us had in our youths in that classic 80s/90s bit of GW history, before life got in the way a bit much and he drifted away from the hobby. Anyhow Robin's other claim to fame beyond painting some rather lovely Eldar was having one of his Golden Demon entries featured in White Dwarf (162 if you want to go and rummage). This rather nice Chaos Space Marine

And a newer photo Robin took for me the other day, since how could you part with a model you'd had featured!

Lovely work.

It's been really nice chatting with Robin so I shall endeavour to do him proud with my additions to the Eldar I now have in my stewardship! Of course when that might be I can't say ... when I have a sudden urge to paint Eldar I guess! Watch the WIP thread for updates!

Right I promise I'll post something I've painted next!

Thank you. Hopefully I'll get onto my Orks soon. The collection is ready at least!

So a while back I saw an auction (proper one, not ebay) for some Eldar. I never had any Eldar growing up and have always quite fancied some. However realistically I've got my Squats to finish up, a load of Orks to do, random Imperial Guard and who knows what else. I am not going to find the time to paint a full Eldar army.

Now this army looked fairly well painted in the pictures which did leave me a choice. I normally buy models and strip them, because a huge huge part of the hobby for me is the painting. That said a little part of me thought - well maybe I could keep these painted, do a few repairs and add a couple of other models and call it done. There was also part of me that slightly wanted to preserve the effort that must have gone into the army. I don't know if the auction was someone just selling off a collection or if it was an estate sale after a death, but I decided I'd be happy to give these a home - as they are. So alas I don't know the name of the original owner and painter :(

You can have a little sneak peak of the entire lot

So since the camera was out today I've taken some photos of things as they currently are and I'll post those over the coming days. I've about five guardians that needed arms so those are to one side being repaired and a few models need their bases tidying up. I've bought a handful of other Eldar models to round out the army. The challenge will be painting style. These are not my style so do I try to match them or just do my thing or find some middle ground I wonder?

Anyhow lets kick off with some of my favourite minis - the Striking Scorpions! Again I must emphasise this is NOT my painting (but I'm sure you can enjoy it anyway!)

EDIT: Credit where credit is due, the painter is Robin Ewbank.
Great job by Robin, I always think the Scorpions are underrated but are excellent sculpts.

So putting Robin's work to one side. Although I have now finished repairing the broken Guardians let's get back to something I've painted for a change! :)

A small one person/creature escape pod I seemed to have in the collection. Not an old model and not GW, but I forget where from.

Quite good fun to paint. Realistically it should probably be more blackened and damaged, but I didn't want to go overboard given I was pleased with the underlying paint job. I might go back and add some discolouration on the engine exhausts. I meant to add some heat burnishing, but quite forgot about that. I'd also intended to do more with the glass on the front, so I should return to this! Nothing is ever finished! :)

since I had the camera out I've also taken some photos of my RT Imperial Fists, which I did finish some years back, but for some reason never photographed. So I'll post those over the next week or two.

Oh when it comes to "Realistically" it depends.. futuristic, that is most likely heat tiles, would expect it not to get as damaged from entry, and it also depends on what the planet's atmosphere is like ^_^;

I mean, impacting the ground at terminal velocity at that angle . . . ? And making a crater that size? I'd expect it to be compacted to the size of a tennis ball smeared around the very bottom of the hole. But hey, it's space opera. Why not. I love the look of the thing. I think we can leave realism to the historical wargamers just this once. ;) Excellent color choices and a quite neat looking little miniature.

They are certainly odd things! Still the Imperium of Man is full of weird and wacky stuff.

Anyhow as promised I did take photos of my old metal RT marines. I painted these several years ago and as you'll see faces were not (and are probably not) my forte. I'll have to get lessons from Geroak II I think...

And in no particular order the first few:

I've never really sorted them into any units, so you're going to just get a few random photographs! Eventually I'll add some RTB01s that are in the pile and figure out something sensible for an army.

Thanks, I've always been pleased with the yellows on these models - combination of the airbrush and yellow ink. I must sit down and prep the remaining terminators and RTB01s at some point. I have at least now based my little dreadnought so I might start painting that properly once my Ghouls are done.

Anyhow the rest of the set:

Thank you. If I remember I'll try to do some WIP photos of the dread to show the process.

Quite like those large cyber skulls. Feels like something that would be at home in my chaos squats too.
