The Age of Strife

Apologies to Dazza for snagging some Squats, whilst I do love seeing his painted (which is more than you can say for mine) I am hoping to get some paint on my army at some point!

Anyhow managed to nab this cute little diorama, which was a little knocked up. The owner couldn't quite remember where everything had gone.

Anyhow I remember making things like that back as a kid, so it did hit a big nostalgia button for me. Whilst it will be a shame to strip it all down I think I probably will given it is just figures on a base and not more involved, plus where they all go is still a bit of a head scratcher. The painting is quite nice and very much of an era:

One Ork is missing an arm I see, but I expect I can bodge something. Anyhow felt if I am stripping them I should at least record them a little for posterity! I probably won't leap to the Biostrip just yet, plenty to be getting on with, having been naughty on ebay this last week or two.

Must get some varnish on the Ghouls and finish up the wretched Night Haunts. Although in true butterfly style when I found I actually had an hour last night I started work on my Carrion instead of doing any of the things I should!

Right I shall now be good and stop looking at ebay too much. One for Paul I think, picked up some (once) quite nicely painted Golfag's Ogres alas not the drummer and champion, but they were a good price and one can never have too many ogres lurking in the lead pile!

So quick pic for posterity, although I don't think I'll strip them off until I actually come to paint them, since they (like the Squats) have a bit of charm as they are.

best thing on that show was Eric Sykes... OH and probebly Pui Fan Lee. She was pretty good in Hardwicke House and the Worst Witch TV movie..

either way, them hills look nice ^_^

Would that be the Worst Witch with Tim Curry and the lass from The Craft?
she might have been in the Craft.. She was in Return to Oz and I know a bit later in life she ... became a bit of a nutter for a while but.. oh well.

The main problem with that version is sadly Tim Curry. (there is a minor renamed character which I only figured out later was due to some possibility for it being sold in the USA) The Great Wizard is an old guy but for some reason, in the tv movie they changed him into a 'young heart throb'. not sure why.. it's not bad but that bit kinda ruins it as a good adaption. (yes, I have all the Worst Witch books, including 2 Activity books she wrote)

Not that I've been able to find much hobby time for painting, but in a moment of eternal optimism I topped up the lead pile with a few new additions from ebay.

So this lot await their dunk into the paint stripper (apologies if you recognise your work!) and then hopefully in the mythical future of extra time I'll do my own scrawling on them!

Otherwise I have done a few more bits of woodland, just small sections to pack out the larger ones I did a while back. I was curious to try some of the tree stump bases from Jarvis and picked up a few. They are perfectly decent, although perhaps the spacing is a little tight on them for the larger K&M trees, although that said in real life trees often grow into their neighbours. Anyhow they certainly made for a faster build. Still a bit of work needed to pack out the trunks now and add a few more bits of foliage before they are ready.

"Book waving Commissar" just reminds me of the old Military police.. I don't think they released any minis of them, just use a normal marine, but I can just picture a Military Police Marine being one which would rush into a battle to go up to his side, waving his book "Oi! On page 352 section 3, sub section B it says you can't do that!".

I'll try to do my best! I think I had a "what the hell" moment having seen some other auctions that evening go above my limits. So granted it was a little more than I really wanted to pay, but figured combined shipping and all that would make it more economical! Probably shouldn't have given it seems to have been a month for invoices coming in rather than going out! :)

I'm my moments of downtime I've been trying to do some Deadcember:

Although the riders are not even primed! And had then thought if I was still in the mood to tackle some Squat bikers, but maybe I should get a batch of Marines ready to work on should the mood take me - certainly feeling in more of a 40K mood at present - I can always leave them in their post airbrush prepped state for a while and I've got a few backpacks left over from my last lot I think so that reduces the work. Tempting!
