Bottom two.. lets see.. right side ( hand in air) is C23 (3c-08) [AKA 0902/08] Mercenary, missing his mace, and the left one is.. 05 (aka 04) Warlord, missing his flat axe

well, the top two, of course, are 'Hrothyogg' and Ogre Thug.
so.. 4 3rd Edition Jes Goodwin Ogres. if for a good price, a nice win ^_^

You can never have enough work in progress... I think I might spend some evenings patching up the bubbles and rebuilding the damaged sections on this acquisition:

Another piece I didn't buy back in the day, although I seem to remember quite liking it - although it's a touch cheesy.

I've been keeping an eye out for any of the other Citadel hard foam terrain that isn't "stupid money" and finally this came up. The battlements need some rebuilding and there are a lot of bubbles scattering the rock surface. It'll be interesting painting around the static grass on the mountain itself. Still the first step is to start patching it up! These were obviously quite quick and dirty Citadel projects, you can see the master model was put together roughly, but I'll allow my nostalgia to forgive some modelling sins.

One day I'll do a proper dwarf mountain fortress, but that's for a future date. At one point I wondered about getting the Ziterdes Dwarf Fortress, but alas missed my chance as that is no longer produced. Still nicer to save all the ideas for a proper bit of scratch building one day,

nice work on that bastion, assuming that is what it's supposed to be.
have you seen the scotia grendel dwarven fortifications? fimm made up a fortress combining them and his own terrain work.

I have wondered about those from time to time, but have been concerned about the scale. I assume they are more 20 maybe 25mm as they look quite small so I've never bought any. Might have to go and look on Fimm's blog for some pictures! Thanks.

I've done my first pass on the GW piece now so it's covered in little bits of white filler over all the small holes. I re-did the scrollwork in green stuff on Saturday, so progressing along nicely. I'm not 100% sure what GW had in mind with the piece there is no way out from the walled section other than through the door into the mountain so I guess a bastion of some sort. It has some vague steps up to the little lookout on top. Once I've got it all filled up and neat I'll cover over my work with some base layers and figure out how I'll paint it. I got it with a few other 40k wall sections and some trees and bits. Good little haul!

Quick update then. The "dwarven fort/outpost/whatever" has now been patched up and repaired so it'll be onto figuring out how I'll paint it - I think I'll just try to work around the existing static grass! The biggest piece of damage was on the little lookout shown below.

I've also managed to do a small test batch of the "Fantasy Regiments" goblins that I got along with the previously shown orcs and I'm quite pleased with them. Not quite finished, but I think I'm going to be happy to do the rest like this (slap-chop like the orcs).

Finally a shot of everything on the desk, you can see the pile of walls I got with the fort, they needed patching up with plenty of air bubbles damaging the detail. I've also done the first pass prime on the goblins - they need another layer or two to smooth out the undercoat however.

Finally a paintbrush has been lifted this year - although granted not one with bristles yet. A little more work on the dwarven fortress thingy. Managed to give it a base layer of paint to cover up all my filling. Of course in so doing you spot loads of other holes that you missed. So I need to ponder if I shall bother with those. Still if not then it's ready for a wash to tie it all together a bit and then I can start to work on the detail and bring out some textures a bit more.

I also finished priming the goblins, so maybe they will get some love at some point!

Nice looking fortress! I . . . uh . . . will not discuss whether I've picked up a paintbrush of any kind yet myself. I do have some terrain sitting on the table. Hmm . . .

I've spend a few nights over the last week trying my hand at feet!

So some time back I mentioned I'd acquired four beasts of Nurgle of ebay, but they were missing their feet - which is probably why I managed to get them for about half the price they typically go for. Of course technically I need seven for a unit, but I probably need to arrange a lottery win first so four it is for now ... Funny how I've come a fully 180° on this miniature and now I really quite like it!

I did wonder about asking a friend who does some sculpting to do me some feet that I could print, or buying a complete beastie and ahem duplicating the feet, but in the end I just felt like giving it a go one evening.

Anyhow I'm reasonably pleased with the results. I started with the basic structure of the leg and added the texture to that. then added a rough foot with three ridges. Then cut between the ridges to make my toes and put the "rings" on top of the toes. Mushed it all together a bit and finally added a sort of sculpted cilia under the foot. Also I only did three toes rather than four for no particular reason other than it seemed to fit what I was doing better.

For reference this is what the original feet look like, alas mine are not quite as professional, but comparison is the thief of joy and all that! :)

My attempt might benefit from another pass with the greenstuff, but I thought you might like to see the work so far. Their lovely pink base is because I put pins in to mount them so needed something to stick them in, eventually I think they will be on 60x40mm bases which seem like a reasonable fit.

I add a few extra tentacles using wound wire from Zinge with a bit of greenstuff over the top. That along with some extra bits to fill in the gaps between the tentacles.

I had a few broken tentacles that needed pinning back in place, but beyond the normal stripping of old paint and a lot of glue that needed picking out of the surface texture they were in quite good condition and came up very clean.

So hopefully when I next get the airbrush out I'll get some primer on them and see how they look when uniform and decide if they need any more work.

perfectly acceptable. I see no problem with them new legs/feet at all.

Oh and if you wanna round up the unit much cheaper.. £16 a piece from L72 for 'Demonic Rotten Plague Beast'. Two different types in metal. Both sculpted by Adam Frank from Spikey Entertainment (#1 is inspired by an unreleased model, and #2 released one)

The trick is to find something like a Nurgle beastie where no matter how much you maul the greenstuff it will probably look intentional ;) I'd not tackle anything too much more crazy than this, I always stand in awe looking at both the work you see on this board and elsewhere - how do they make these little magical figures I find irresistible?

Well I thought that until I looked in RoC Lost and the Damned and saw they are supposed to come in units of seven! Or multiples of seven if you are really flush, guess at the time Citadel didn't expect them to be selling for quite so much on ebay, I got such a bargain (I think it was about £90something for the four) in retrospect - ouch, yikes, woah, blimy, now we're getting silly

Funny how none of the beasts have looked like Tony's drawing! I sense a retro sculpting opportunity :) saying that the other beast manic mentioned is closer in that it has the top tentacle https://l72smetalminiaturesmusings.wordpress.com/2022/10/02/demonic-plague-beast-1/
