Skaven

Painting mojo has left me at the moment so decided to base up as many of my skaven I can. So to begin with we have a unit of 30 slaves and two units of 25 clan rats. The stormvermin unit I have already painted will become a unit of 20 black skaven as I have another group to be based that will be my stormvermin unit. In total that will be 120 models which ain't bad considering I started of with 11 just other 6 months ago ! Hopefully I can get along way to completing them all this year.

while my average rats have a quite basic basing, I always prefer toe base after painting cause.. just comes off cleaner for me, but still nice to see other ways and stuff. Basic basing and then paint up and finish up the basing after painting?

Maybe not that hard to resist at the price they go for these days!

I was very lucky at the beginning with several bulk ebay buys that were BIN and very reasonable .

I agree the prices people are asking is ridiculous for the most part. I regularly see models on ebay for £20+ and they just keep being relisted its mad. I have a policy of paying no more than £5 for RnF models and a little bit more for the rarer models. Last week i managed to get my hands on a Throt for only £8.50 which I was very happy with considering the ones I see on ebay are double that !

Anyway here's the rest of my skaven I need to paint. These are the more unique models so I have 5 night runner, 10 gutter runners,3 plague censer bearers (need another 3), 10 plague monks, 5 poisoned wind globadiers (still need Venombreath) and 3 Character models. On top of that i do have 2 more warpfire-throwers to add to the one I've painted.

Apart from Venombreath I think the only thing I would like to add is a couple of rat ogres for Throt to lead.

I got my Throt very cheap.. but that was a couple of years back, but he is a nice classic figure. I can see why they later decided to pick him to be a special character (though non of the other mutated Skaven got that.. and really, they often downplayed the chaos mutation side of Skaven)

So finally got my hands on Venombreath. I spent more than I normally do but felt it was worth it as I've not seen him on Ebay except for ridiculous money £20+. Ended up paying £13 and turned up today. Then wouldn't you believe it I go to leave feedback and what do I see ? A Venombreath BIN for £6  so just my luck . Anyway bought that one as well

Cannot wait to slap some paint on them but first I need to finish off some boring RnF models.

Sod’s law, ain’t it?

Just bagged one of my most wanted on eBay today for far more than I’d like to have paid. Who knows when I’d have seen one again though.

Modern stuff.

I go up to WFB4, but will probebly accept WFB5. That's WAY after by time.. when you get stupid stuff like Zombie Boneripper and the Cyborg RatOgres (which are more 40K then WFB ¬_¬)

Loook WFB4 Warhammer Armies: Skaven page 79 ;)

Doesn't describe Stormvermin.
Says the Council of Thirteen had Albino guards, but then states they weren't albino, but there guards either Dyed there fur, or it turned white when they joined. Thanquol (who kinda should know) didn't know which. But knew they were not natural born white, so not albino. Before 4th, there was Stormvermin AND Black Skaven, in 4th they where fused into Stormvermin. Regiments section page 63
"Stormvermin are much larger than ordinary clanrates and many have black fur. For this reason, Black-furred Skaven have a reputation for being killers, and are much feared amongst the clanrats',
Earlier, Bestiary section, page 50
"The rank of different skaven can often be distinguished by their fur colour - Assassins and the giant Stormvermin usually have black fur (considered the mark of a pure killer in skavendom), white or grey fur denotes great leaders and wielders of magical power while the bulk of skaven ave reddish brown fur or piebald-type marklings. Fur is often further branded or painted with clan mahrkings or runes, more occasionally it is bleached or dyed to denote special status as honour guards, sacrificial slaves, and so do"

If we want to continue, I think setting up a nice bit in general chat. Like I said, end of the day do what you like, but in oldhammer fiction, white/grey is a limited fur colour ^_^ Stormvermin are mostly black.

It's an interesting discussion to have.

I'm all about WFB3 and Warhammer Armies where most armies are at the infancy of their history and not really as fleshed out as they are in later versions. Obviously even back then white fur is associated with magic user elites but for me it's a great way to help create that look of an elite unit. On top of the fur I will just like with my original unit try give them a more uniform look to again help them stand out from the rabble.
