sewers.of.estark’s armies & warbands

Oh, he's fun! That's a remarkably interesting skeleton. Well done!
Thanks symphonicpoet, I’m not the biggest fan of these later C17 skeletons but he does play the part of leader well. For the longest time I’d thought I ought to greenstuff a bit more material onto his finger as it looks like he’s missing a bit but I believe that is actually how he is intended to look..

I haven’t decided if I like the yellow cloak or not..

i think the cloak looks good.
looks good to me, though I think he is missing a ting bit of that finger when I look at the lost mini image for him (http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=Image:Citadel-C17-87-25.jpg) but looks fine anyway
Thank you both :)
and that’s interesting ManicMan.. I wonder what I had referenced before that showed me otherwise?? Oh well, plenty more to paint so no need for me to get hung up on that. Coming soon I’ve got the next unit leader, 10 skeletons with hand weapons and shields & a giant scorpion.

Undead are looking really nice. Love the variation of skeletons’ shields and colour patterns you’ve painted on them. As others have said, blue really gives a nice contrast on these minis.

That’s curious. I have a variant of this model (one with hood on) and it also had a stubby finger like yours. I too thought it was supposed to look like that but ended up making new finger from pin and green stuff. That was 10 years ago, and this thread made me dig the mini from drawer and check how it looks. Retrospectively, I must say converting the finger was not worth the hassle.

I've often seen two 'alternatives' of the same model done at the same time but interesting that one had 3 that I know of.. Aly Morrison must have really liked that pose for a Skeleton Leader..

I do wonder if the finger was kinda.. very weak so a mixture of mis-casting and easy breakage point. The pictures on Lost Mini seam to have the helmeted one looking like the finger is more bent around into kinda more of a fist and the hooded one with a finger that is a bit shorter but still noticeably sticking out.. Surely they would have put a channel going to that finger so maybe it was something which was just a bit too small and often came off.. It happens when they sculpt something just a little bit too thin.

Thanks Geroak, I’m sure it was well worth it. As I definitely think about the “should have” every time I look his way..

Yeah I’m sure it was a weak point perhaps in cast as well. I got this one in a lot with some 90s casts of older undead I wonder if the mould just deteriorated the finger over time?

i suspect wear and tear on skeletal hands is pretty high.
Definitely not out of place I’d say.

Did a quick repaint on this C29 Giant Scorpion’s base to match the rest of the project, the scorpion itself I painted a while back.

And a champion for the next unit of skeletons, an unnamed Iron Claw Skeleton Guardsman.

After I finish up this next unit of skeletons I’ll get everything together for some scenic army shots.

Work is slow on the skeletons but I’ve made a bit of progress by preparing the next lot for undercoats. A few statues that will be used as objective markers, another C29 scorpion & a group of Ushabti that will be used as “counts as” temple dogs.

nice work on the skeleton champion and rebasing the scorpion.
Thanks twisted moon!

Unfortunately I’m working through a skeleton painting blockage, on the bright side I managed to paint this CH5 Chaos Sorcerer Harktnad Beastspawn. I’ll be fielding him as a lowly necromancer though!
Hopefully you enjoy this scenic shot with some of his undead companions.

Now that I’ve wrapped up on my Evil Adventuring Party, full focus is back on my Tomb Kings.

I’ve finished up another unit of plastic skeletons,

And another C27 Giant Scorpion
