Rogue Trader Goodies

Oh my God the kneepads! They were kind of a pain, i'm not going to lie. I have an ork army made up of modern plastics so I kind of got used to painting checks, but the knee pads made it more difficult because of the weird angles.

Sooner or later the RT orks will get some love. Its only a matter of time...

Hey everyone,

Thanks again for all the comments! I'm about halfway through my Crimson Fists at this point and thought I'd post an army shot. Spent most the weekend basing and varnishing everything. So here we go!

Crimson Fists advancing past a destroyed rebel rhino.

Evil Eddie supporting advancing Crimson Fist infantry

A Techmarine and his Crusader maniple advance past the destroyed rhino.

The Command Squad pauses while the medic renders aid to a fallen marine.

What I have left to complete: Devastator squad, Predator, Grey Knight Squad, Inquisitor, Chaplain on Jetbike. I still need to pick up a few more Techmarines so the army will comply with the army list in Compendium. Right now the list is set up to be compatible with the current codex, hence the command squad composition. Enjoy!

I really like the Crusader Maniple, lovely.

Thanks! They were not cheap to come by. I picked them up a few years ago as part of a Horus Heresy campaign we were playing in 5th edition.

I not only enjoy the paint jobs, but the "scenes" you've chosen to present them in. Nice work, and looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks! I was inspired by photos in old issues of White Dwarf. I plan on working on my diorama and photo skills as I paint up more and more stuff.

Looking at these gave me the same excited feeling that I used to get when the latest WD arrived, back when I was a teenager and WD was actually ram-packed with interesting stuff.

Massive nostalgia kick from the excellent paint job.

Thank you!

Oh wow, thank you so much for the compliment! Very humbling to hear that i've inspired some nostalgic feelings. I has alot of fun making the little scenes, and i'll be doing more very soon. I just picked up eleven Imperial Army troopers on ebay that i'll be painting and phtographing soon.

Nice to see these old marines get a great high intensity paint job. they really "pop", as people say these days.

Dont think i have ever seen a marine army with a whole maniple of robots before. Look great.

Thanks! I wanted them to be pretty bright, but not appear "cartoony". I have seen an Army with two robot maniples before, on the back of White Dwarf 142. It was one of like five White Dwarf issues I would tote around with me everywhere. Those issues even followed me into the Army and to college. Here was my inspiration:

Great paint job. I wish I could paint like that.
What kind of varnish do you use???

I use a few. I apply light coats of Testors Dullcote between paint layers, I think it helps bring out the colors between layers. After everything is finished I used Krylon Gloss for heavy duty protection, then Krylon Matte to tone down the sheen.

Sometimes after everything I use one last layer of dullcote because the Krylon Matte still leaves a bit of a sheen.

I didn't do that with these minis, but I may still do that.

Hello everyone,

Not really showcasing my own stuff, but I thought these deserve to be shown before I dump them in stripper. These just came in the mail. Someone clearly put some time into these and I thought it would be tragic if I didn't document their work.

The paint is chipping off in some places, but I think these really evoke the spirit of the RT era. I imagine they are wearing purple fatigues because they are genestealer cultists. Who knows?

I don't know if I should paint them in another scheme or just paint them in an updated version of their scheme.

What do you gents think?

An updated scheme might be cool but I know one thing for sure- that guy in pink with the grenade launcher needs to go

Definitely going to go for more ligh purple than pink.

Great thread!!!

I saved some of the photos for later inspiration! I love the robots, makes me want to paint my own soon(ish).
