Why not make the 'River' a smaller offshoot/ tributary? Often faster flowing, deeper in middle, hide hazards, difficult to cross, dodgy steep banks and cuts. Easier to scale down width, shape, on the overall board. Just not as 'wide'. Even retain an angled bit of main river in one corner?Ah. Can't make another board and have the river hide the gap. That orientation is such that you could not reach to the centre to move anything. Reaching the other way is just about doable. So it looks like just this canvas played lengthways. Unless half sized odd rectangular canvases are available. Maybe add 2 feet in front of the river.

A river. A crossing. A marsh. Reminds me of something.Make the river. The ferry crossing. More hedges and roads. Some marshy ground near the river and job done.
I have a virtually cost free solution.

So.
Make the river. The ferry crossing. More hedges and roads. Some marshy ground near the river and job done. That will keep me busy for a while.
Ah now that makes much more sense. I was going to say that if the the object of the battle was the bridge, why not move it more into the middle - but you've done that in spades! An excellent looking board.
There's been plenty of battles over bridges over the years - there was an interesting one near where I used to live Battle of Cropredy Bridge

The banks look amazing.Cheers. Hopefully it will be done by Sunday evening.
Harveys or Blandey's? Just going by an earlier photo.Grassy ass.
I have just finished the banks for now, I suspect it may not be dry until the morning, at which point on with the liquid water....
Am interested! I made a similar river/canal (but in circa 6" & 1' sections with formica bases) primed and painted. Banks look OK with flock etc, lichen and trees. BUT water not so convincing! Does it dry quickly? Like a coloured varnish & glossy? Will wait for your application and photos! 👍ha ha:

It is meant to dry flat and still hence the name, but I have made currents with it before by manipulating it just before it dries.
Hopefully I can do that again..
