Yes, wine producers went to great lengths to prevent fizz!
With the climate changing the way it is there's no great surprise England is managing to pull off better wine grapes these days.

Yes, there are plenty of very decent English sparkling wines about these days.

Nyetimber's our go-to high days & holidays fizz. We served it at our wedding.
 
can't say I ever heard much against English Wine (notable vineyard being just down the road from me, though I believe they went under kinda last year).. Normally polish wine or Czech wine is the joke for 'cheap table wine'
 
Apparently in Roman Times, growing latitudes/ warmer seasons meant the vine was grown in around the Vale of York. I once read an article that said their yorkshire climate was similar to champagne region now (not now obvs, English growers down south had been out with all night row burners due to late frosts this year). I've got a grape vine in our back garden, in a pot, small and never gets a crop (cold frame it in winter). Maybe in a few years, when the world is truly burning, I might get a single grape... 🍇
 
River. I am going to decide if my river should go length ways or width ways.
I have cleared space and will start today. I am going to make it in one complete section so doing it one way will be much easier, but I need to figure out which makes more sense rather than what is easier.
 
Playing about with rivers. This is sort of the lay of the land but obviously it leaves no playing surface for this side of the river.

So do I:

Take the middle bit of that table set up and flip it by placing it at one of the shorter edges, then have the river in the middle of the table.



Or


Get another canvas and cover it in a static mat.


The later will cost more and take up space. The former will cost nothing extra but have less playing space
 
This is for WFB, right? Is the river impassable except at any bridges or fords? If so, I think choke point(s) will get old very quickly.

Could the river form one of your long edges?

I, being more of a Mordheimer than a Warhammerer, would be tempted to make the river playable space. There are various ways it could be done e.g. have it fordable anywhere, include islets, add row boats or barges etc.
 
It will have 1 crossing only.
It will be for likely 1 game only.

That game will most likely be the final assault on the village, the only way being the crossing. The objective will be to get across/stop the others from crossing.

The playing area is small for WFB so playing length ways which offers more playability in terms of other games/scenarios would not give a lot of space for manoeuvres or flank deployment
 
Perhaps go with a man-made waterway? Canals have been around for thousands of years. That would allow you to make it a regular shape that takes up less space.

Dumb question? What's to stop the undead, who don't need to breathe, from simply shuffling across the river bed?

The Assault on the mine scenario from TotL has some rules for fast-flowing water. Too skirmish gamey for your tastes?

Ah. Can't make another board and have the river hide the gap. That orientation is such that you could not reach to the centre to move anything. Reaching the other way is just about doable. So it looks like just this canvas played lengthways. Unless half sized odd rectangular canvases are available. Maybe add 2 feet in front of the river.
