Horseshoe sounds more than fitting now that Sade mentioned it. But the question is which way it's ends should point, up or down? :)

Pointing down, don't want people thinking a Ultramarine lives there. *Spits in heretic*

If you want a bucket, I think I have a peasant arm holding one somewhere. Actually I have a ton of spare pitchforks and other assorted farm tools left over from my peasant levy I've just built if you want some.

I find especially animals to be very underused in scenery though small creatures like rats/mice would fit so many settings.

For sure.
I have only made 2 buildings so far, the farm being my 3rd.
But already 1 of those 2 has a cat resting on a barrel.

I have secured a rat for the farmhouse.

I had completely missed that cat! Where's it from? It fits perfectly to aesthetics of an (alleged) witch's hut.

Besides adding animals to scenery, just implying that they exist and not every creature in the setting is a dragon, manticore etc. goes a long way IMO. As simple pieces of scenery as woods can be made more interesting than just a bunch of trees by adding things like an entrance to a sett, anthill, bird's nest and so forth. :)

About rats and mice:
Stronghold terrain offers properly small mice among other pretty nice looking animals.

If those are too small, RPE has some giant rats that are both relatively cheap and decently sized.
Here's a quick comparison shot of them next to a paladin and various rats from GW (unpainted ones are from RPE):

Warlord Games:

Thanks everyone for the hints and tips and freebies and what not.

Once I have the few odds and sods coming this way the farm building will be done.

Painted some ghouls for an upcoming scenario.

My initial thought was pale and pasty.
Then I remembered about Citadel Ghoul Grey so figured they must be grey?
But then I read WFB's bestiary and it said they had dark rancid skin, well that is not pale or grey ike ghoul grey...?!

In the end I went for this which seems more lore accurate but I am not sure how much I like it?
On the plus side these were much quicker to paint than my Stirland lads, so there is that.

But then I did use a quicker technique, maybe that is why I am not as pleased with them.

I guess it just goes to show that if you want a certain result, there are no shortcuts.
