Michaels 25mm WFB Stuff...

Thanks.

They are fairly theraputic to make, which is a boon.

Slapped on some plaster and some door handles and a rough surface to put the tiles on.
Being quite rural and home made, the roof will be shingles rather than tiles.

The balsa I have is too thick for shingles as it is, so once cut into strips I then carefully slice them down their length to make them about half the thickness.

See, now while I love seeing the building of such things, I don't like showing my buildings in progress cause.. I don't think they do me any favours..

also.. you get your Balsa online or local? I don't think there is ANY local craft shop which sells decent (or even half decent) balsa near me anymore..

Not local as such, Hobbycraft in Hull, which is about an hour away.

Fair enough, I don't mind.
People may find it useful or on the flip side they may have suggestions.

The Blood Moon Boyz.

So named by Scrotter Brokenstaff from a prophecy which came to him after he fought a mighty demon, and only through cheating did the demon win and the demons blow broke his staff and knocked him out.

Whilst out cold, Scrotter (then Scrotter of the Mightystaff) had a vision, in which when Morrslieb runs red with blood, the warband will be invincible to all.

So thus did the warband become known.

However since his Mightystaff was snapped by the most deceitful and sly demon, old Scrotter has not been casting much in the way of spells of late, something which is getting on the nerves of Holbrog The Butcher the Warboss of the Blood Moon Boyz.

Holbrog has made it clear that “a shaman wot ain’t casting no magic is just a sham, an’ dat ain’t no use to me or da ladz, so you better figga out a way to start doin’ da hexin’ agin or you is gonna be havin’ words wiv my boyz Hak and Slash innit.”

So it is that Scrotter and four Blood Moon Boyz are making their way to the settlement of Heiligsheld, or more precisely the Toll Booth on the North Road.
Scrotter has heard that the humans keep a magic skull at the Toll Booth and he reckons that if he can get the skull and attach it to his staff then his days of mere dung fumbling will be over and he will once again be a mighty magician.

Another glorious day in Stirland, here we see the North Road near the toll booth just outside the village of Heiligsheld.

Where ya goin’ then Hans? Spider asks Johannes as he stops to greet the counts men stationed at the toll booth.

I was just popping up to see Pfiezel as it goes, ‘eres me crown.

Both Spider and Heff squint at the mention of the old woman’s name, What business you got with her starts Heff, got another case of crotch rot? Spider finishes, they both guffaw showing their wine rotted teeth.

Johannes just smiles politely and fakes a laugh.
Ahh you remember that Bretonnian in Wurtbad Heff?
The one with the special mouth Spider?
Ha ha, I wouldn’t mind some more of that.
Aye, but the one you had was male!
It don’t matter none when they’s Bretonnian.
And with that both brothers start laughing and coughing and doubling over.
Well I’ll be on my way then lads if it please ya?
Spider looks up at Johannes through laughter filled teary eyes, then quick as a flash, his eyes change.
Wide eyed now he looks past Johannes and to the edge of one of the fields.

Shittin’ Taal!! Look over there, that’s gobbos innit!!?
Nah
, says Heff, of the 2 twins he has the better eyesight, Thems Orcs, and there are more of em than there is of us.

Oi, Hans, quick, run into the woods and go get Martyn and the other Holzfaller, they ain’t far.
Go on be quick about it, we will ‘old the Greenskins ‘ere as long as we are able.

With that Johannes darts into the woods following the worn path the woodcutters use to tell them that they are needed.

The aim of the game was for Scrotter Brokenstaff to get the ‘magical’ skull from the Toll Booth.

Spider and Heff need to hold out until the Holzfaller arrive to help turn the tide.
Once Johannes leaves the table a d6 is rolled each turn and on a 6 the Holzfaller arrive on the table edge, as they are not that far away as Heff notes, each turn after the first they have +1 to the d6 roll.

Scrotter sends his lads to the hedge where upon both sides start shooting at one another, however at this range and behind cover, no-one hits.
So he orders the hand to hand lads to get over the hedge and smash the puny oomans in the face.
During their dash across the empty field the arrer shooty Orc fails to hit either of the lads, but one bolt did graze Heff a bit.
Heff however after a few tries, and once the Orcs were in close range managed to down an Orc.

But before they could celebrate the Orcs were on them, hand to hand ensued.
Scrotter orders the unengaged Orc arrer lad to engage, and he leaps over the fence and engages Spider.

The brave lads of Heiligsheld do well, but outnumbered Spider takes a terrible blow to his thigh and goes down.
Seeing his brother killed?, Heff fights with renewed vigour and manages to dispatch the greenskin infront of him, but things are not looking good.
As the Orc arrer boy thinks about getting stuck in, he hears a commotion in the tree line.
It is Martyn and the Holzfaller.

They rush out and the sight of them with their terrible double handed woodsman axes is enough for the Orcs who flee emptyhanded back from whatever dung hole they came from.

Praise Be To Taal!!

Looks like we were almost too late says Martyn, Hans, you get him to the witch, we will stay here and send word to the Count about what has happened.

And with that Johannes loads the shallowly breathing Spider onto his cart and heads off with Heff to the old womans shack in the woods, offering a prayer to Shallya that they get him there in time…

So there you go, the first story of my Warm Ale and Mud project.
This is my first 25mm battle report, not quite sure how it reads, let me know what you think.

Thanks for reading!!

Lovely looking game and a fine building in progress.

The easiest roof for the building rather than cut individual shingles would be card tiles. Cut strips twice the depth of the exposed tile then cut individual tiles half way through the depth. Layer on then add ridge tiles at the top.

Thanks!

Easy?
Why would I want to do that?

To be fair it would be easier, but I prefer the look of individual tiles, looks and feels more authentic somehow to me.
