Inchmurrin's Oldhammer fantasy gallery

Your anonymous wolf is a RT figure called Geri. There’s a model for his brother, Freki, too. They used to hang out with Leman Russ back in the day, but I always felt that they’d make better pets for a vampire.

Bit of a demotion for the wolf then and some time travelling! Thanks for the info always useful.

^No demotion. Seems a solid use for those old Leman Russ wolves. I have spares and so I've carved at least one to pieces and added a cyber-eye to another. Yours is intact and looks proud to be carrying a brave gobbo into the fight. Seems a match made in heav . . . er . . . well . . . someplace that sounds kind of similar at first, but goes off different like.

More Wolves!!! So at last the main wolfpack - no not U boats Gobbos. The main mob of the Goblins of the Bleeding Eye Scouts have turned up. They are Knightmare Games Greenskin Wars goblin scouts an Black Hat wolves both by the Goblin Master Kev. I hope i have done them justice. They also tried out as guards at Buckingham Palace but got run off pretty quick by the Scots Guards. Only six more to follow.

Also just finished a C17 pre slotta skeleton who had lost the top of his halberd now resurrected. He is a very active sculpt and I love his flowing cloak which I am quite happy with the finish.

Those are some great models and they'll look neat together on a battlefield. The Kev Addams gobbos are always great. :)

As to suggestions, since you asked so nicely, have you tried a dark wash? Sometimes a dark wash can make for some great shadows, particularly on skeletons, just laying it on the deeper spots around joints, eye sockets, and teeth and the like. And if it gets too dark you can always highlight back over with a light color like parchment or ivory or even white. (Or a light olive or spring green of some kind in the case of gobbos.) If you do your highlighting before the wash completely dries you can even blend some, which can lead to nice effects.

Anyway lovely stuff and I look forward to more. :) Keep it up! Maybe they'll get the Buckingham gig sooner or later.

Thanks for the kind comments. As to me and washes, they are actually washed - ink not washing up liquid - but in this lot probably too lightly having over done washes on previous minis. Ah well pratice makes competent I suppose. More on their way.

^I do love inks. I'm guessing that maybe you're doing something similar to what I myself do with them: use a translucent ink in the same color as a paint, but darker to provide contrast and perhaps a different sheen? I love that effect. And highlighting on top of it can give even more interesting results. Lots of room to experiment. Highlighting before the ink dries will give a different result than after, for instance. Both can be neat. But I was thinking of deeper shadows, as between bones on a skeleton or in a character's mouth or between a cloak and breeches, say: the really deep shadows. I find a black wash judiciously applied very useful. And it's the sort of thing you can make yourself if you have some black paint and a spare bottle lying about. Fancy things like a "flow agent" can be useful, but personally, even just a black paint thinned down too much works. (And a sufficiently dark grey or even blue might work just as well. Anything dark and dirty.) Anyway, keep up the good work and I look forward to more wolf riders and chaotic individuals and maybe a zombie of some kind. :)

Symphonicpoet thanks for the comments. I happen to have some of the original black ink in my box of tricks and I'll attempt judicious application in suitable places on the next batch who happen to be riding black/grey wolves.

Excuse the flock littering the place up, that's what comes of rushing to get photos taken and get out into the only dry day we are likely to have in Scotland for a while!. As always comments and criticism encouraged.

Always love to see massed wulfboyz. Glad to see you cranking through them and looking forward to seeing more.

As for suggestions; I think we share a similar issue with getting the red paint for the eye not to stray from the sculpted eyeball socket (reds always seem to be especially runny). I use to leave eyes 'til the very last thing, get nervous about making a hash of it and then, invariably, 'miss'! What I've started to do now is paint the eyes before I paint anything else. I still make a mess of it (pretty much every time), but I'm able to tidy this up straight away, 'cutting-in' towards the eye with more undercoat and then going careful around the eyes with the subsequent skin colours. I've found doing things this way round has really helped me, if for no other reason than I can get the eyes over and done with. Maybe something worth having a play with?

At last a sensible solution to my making a mess of painting eyes! Thanks OLd Hob i shall try your method out on the next couple. Given this lots name I really should do better.

You have a truly characterful collection there. :) I hope you get a couple of sunny days sometime this summer. Maybe I'll try to get over. When I was in Scotland a couple of years ago it didn't rain once! Was in Edinburgh and the Troassachs on two occasions of about two days each. The ground was saturated from recent rain, but none fell while I was there. I've had the same effect on Seattle and San Francisco. If you need an anti-rain man . . . call me. ;) (On the other hand, I've lived through several significant floods at home and a series of rain soaked landslides elsewhere. So . . . maybe it's best to just take your chances.)

Thanks for the compliment symphonicpoet and given the last few days here with 2 degree nights and yet more rain a visit is not required at this time for weathermancy purposes, any other reason would be most welcome.

More Goobbos. Recent allocation of transport and a new recruit has resulted in some changes and an addition to the Bleeding Eye Scouts. A very helpful trade on the Oldhammer Trading Post allowed me to acquire a Marauder Goblin wolf rider and mount. As the wolf more suited the standard bearer in size I've switched him to the Marauder wolf and the rider is now on a Black Hat wolf. I think the wolf eyes are an improvement using Old Hobs technique

Since you got auto focus, try to photograph from 1m of distance. If you've got display on camera, they usually got square like indicator of focus. Miniature should be in that square and everything in horizontal line of that square should have details.
