Bood Miniature Dwarf Project

Never tried out Army Painter can but what I have reed they got same problems like other can varnishes. I frosted good number of Orks and Marines because it wasn't warm enough or cold enough or something else so I have started to use varnishes that sat on the shelf for 15 years. Those are Liquitex gloss, satin and matte ( no matter how thick I put varnish on miniature it always dry without trace or tho change reflection of metal colours ) but I think that any varnish that is on brush is good one specially those for varnishing paintings so they don't go yellow after years. Cans seems to have added substances to varnishes.

Glad the matte varnish worked. :) It's a frustrating problem, to say the least. Looking forward to seeing arty artillery on the arty bases.

Managed to have some free time on Sunday so got down to working on the artillery crew.

And when added to base you get...

Just the actual cannon to paint now. Will be taking inspiration from the classic Wayne England so looking at painting wood instead of woodgrain. I have enough crew to complete 3 pieces but will probably move on after this one.

That's going to be fun! :) I'm imagining the cannon already. I love their poses and the way you've worked them into a group. I can't wait to see the rest.

One painted cannon and crew.

Not sure what's next on the painting table, need to finish off my dwarfs but thinking about taking a break from them and painting something else maybe my orc dog cart or paint up my version of Richard Gunson's classic zombie dragon from WD 142

I really like the artillery base - both from an aesthetical point of view and for gaming functionality. I was wondering how to base up my rocket launcher crew, and I think I'm going to borrow this idea. Lovely stuff as always.

The purpose of the movement tray is purely to match the rest of the army and to me its aesthetically pleasing !

Finished up the last of the dwarfs I'd started work on a while ago.

Next its back to converting the last of models needed to finish off the units.

Not an update as such just looking for peoples opinion.

I've bought some different weapons for my next batch of two handed weapon but I'm unsure about them. So far I've just gone for a Dane Axe for them but looking to make a second unit and was thinking of Hammerers from the Armies book and so looking for something different. Here's a picture of the weapons I got

First 2 are dwarf hammers but I feel they suffer from being typically oversized fantasy weapons. The next 4 are Renaissance Weapons and are probably a little too small/thin but I think with some work could look good. So what do you guys think ?

Hi Dazza. I'm really taken by the halberds and the billhook to be honest. I know they're Renaissance, but I don't think they'll clash too obviously with the general medieval vibe of the dwarves so far. Just my tuppence worth. I'm sure whatever you decide it'll be eye candy once you've painted them up.

i think the hammers look alright myself, however, how about the hammer from this set, if you're not convinced: http://irregularminiatures.co.uk/Images ... mmSW20.jpg.

Yes that's a nice looking hammer but think the cost would be an issue as you have to buy the set.

Sadly the billhook was very thin and the top snapped off so going to discard that version. So think I'm going to go for a mix of the halberds as they look good and also give that elite look I will be going for, so will paint up a few just to make sure/

Have finally managed to paint up the last few dwarfs to complete the 2 units. Really happy with the outcome and have now got 3 completed Bood dwarf units . Hopefully I can get a group photo done soon to show them all off.

So in total I've painted 85 dwarfs and 1 cannon. Which only leaves roughly 130-140 more to paint so at the speed I paint I should get them done around 2030 !!!

So appears its been a couple of years since I worked on any dwarfs ! I have recently taken a break from hobby and when the urge to paint came back I didn't feel like taking on another large project for my greenskin army so decided to paint up another BOOD dwarf. Obviously that meant another little face/beard conversion.

And here we have him

Couldn't leave it at that so took on the challenge of a couple of the crossbowmen models. Have to say not a huge fan of these and don't think they are John Picford sculpts like the others. Also never been a fan of the separate weapon type of model always seems the model is balancing the weapon and not actually holding it so that meant me having to stretch my greenstuff skills to hands !!! Not perfect but hopefully once painted they will look ok.

Those hands look pretty decent. I like the moustache and nose on the chap to the left.

I've always thought the red/yellow you'd chosen for your dwarves was very nice and I look on with much envy at the freehanded dragon. Another lovely dwarf for the thread. Glad you bumped it I've just been back over to look at all the other lovely dwarves you've posted up thread!
