Archaeopteryx's Mild Case of Lead Poisoning

Cheers guys. Now that the festivities have ceased and I have some more spare time I'll hopefully have a bit more to post over the next week or so.

Axiom, that is a very interesting comment about Jes Goodwin's faces, and quite evident now that I think about it- going all the way back to his sculpts for Asgard! The barbarians and orcs have the typical "thin face", there is also of course the eldar, elves, and Melniboneans, as do most of the humans he did for Citadel, signified by exaggerated bushy eyebrows. The Lord of the Rings Uruk Hai have ogre-steroid-boxer faces, as do the AD&D bugbears.

Happy new year all. Been working on Orcs this last week. Maybe trying to wash out the bad taste the Hobbit films left in my mouth. There are some more detailed pictures on my blog. Cheers.

I took a lot of inspiration from Naagruz's Mourngul Renegades thread on this forum, in fact I totally bit his style, go check it out if you haven't seen it, it's awesome.

Wonddrful stuff here from sculpts to painting. Flawless for me, that banner is just too good . I want an army of these.

Lovely flesh tones on those orcs.

I also love how well you managed to get various colours through the units garb and equipment without spoiling the overall dark look to them.

Top stuff.

Thanks alot Asslessman, Cheetor, and Harry!

Cheetor- I deplore boring flat blocks of colour, and am always trying to find ways to break them up and add interest by adding glazes, textures, freehand etc. I think this approach works when painting dark, drab colours because it allows you to add contrast and colour while maintaining an element of 'realism'.

I'll have to second Cheetor. Often times a restrictive pallet for uniform purposes can look . . . too contrived to me. But they way you've done it they look . . . I'd say human, but they are green . . . they look quite individual while seeming to belong together. And the banner is fantastic! Very good work indeed.

Luverly Hobgobs! I especially like what you did with the banner & it's nice to see you included Uruks into the mix.
That's a great looking mob & I hope you do more. :)

Really appreciate everyone taking time to comment, thanks alot. Very flattered you find my work appealing.

I just finished a couple new models and updated my blog, this time some old AD&D miniatures. I was just looking for something simple, fun, and different to paint, so these were finished quite quickly.

First of all an Umber Hulk

And a Troll

Love the way you've painted the eye on that troll, especially those eyelashes! The contrast between the greys on the body and the vivid colours on top of the head and the yellow belly is excellent on that Umber Hulk. I like the idea of having beady red eyes in the nose!

How have I missed this thread! Your work is fantastic but I think my favourite so far has been the Hobgoblins and the Skaven. And the Ogre

Hello, just posting some new models I have finished. This lot are some beastmen, drawn from the wilderness without conscious volition to the Genestealer cult via psychic signals! You just have got to love how eccentric the background for the GC is from the 40k Compilation, no doubt that's why (like me) people are so fond of the concept. As usual there are more details on my blog.

Great job on a fantastic, disturbing bunch of miniatures.
I never tire of seeing that Khornate Champion, those boots are perfect.

Great stuff!
