I know exactly what you mean... I am into the 8th year of my Oldworlder Ally Contingent. I also would not have estimated the time to finish it to be so long when I started it...

Oh dear, don't remind me of the Norscan Tilean and Estalian mercenary armies, I've planned...

^It's a really lovely collection of models begging for paint. And I do like the modification work. That's going to be really really sweet when it's done! :)
Thx:) I've finished one knight, I think I'll upload them here 3 at a time.

The Penitent man

So finally here are my foot knights.

While there's an abundance of corrupt and cruel aristocrats ruling the fair lands of Bretonnia, there are also some noble truly virtuous knights.
But even the most noble may fail in his tasks and get a sense of being dishonoured.

There is a band of gathered knights roaming the lands as of late, which have become the gossip of many a tavern
They are those who have failed their high standards of honour and chivalry, and been driven to the brink of despair.
By fair chance a few of them met and decided to redeem themselves. And as they grew in fame, many likeminded knights sought them out and joined them

They call themselves the penitent man. They humble themselves by fighting on foot like the peasants and they have no squires serving them, but like a true brotherhood serve each other.

These are mostly foot knights from foundry, the original bretonnian foot knights from way back.
I've added some Agincourt knights from Perry miniatures.

The penitent man is humble, the penitent man kneels.

I decided to save a lot of time by using modelling paste to even out the bases instead of carefully clipping the bases free of the feet and then glue them onto GW bases.

I suppose this is what they call frosting. Some unfortunate side effects from the varnish, it's mostly around the transfer decals, but oddly only on these blue painted ones...

I carefully painted blue on top of the "frosting". I think I got away with it...

I really like the banner. How did you do that?

Thx. I painted it on the computer and downsized it before printing and then added some weathering with my brush.
Been thinking of making cloth banners hardened with wet pva glue for the rest of my banners. The paper ones look rather flimsy.

The Dragon Knight

Sieur Raymond d'Argaryen, the middle child of 5 siblings, rose to fame when he slayed the not legendary dragon of the Pale Sisters, infact most people had never heard of it, but slay it he did.
He sold a small part of its scaled skin to a travelling merchant from Araby. When the merchant requested the rest of it, Sieur Raymond replied that he needed it to forge his new armour.
Later there were rumours in the local taverns that the dragon Sieur Raymond had slain was in fact a wyvern hatchling. Sieur Raymonds personal minstrels were found beheaded in a ditch shortly after.

Annoyingly a visible outline appeared on the transfer decals after varnishing him...

An update
After painting a few rank and file knights, which I have not posted here yet, I've realized that they look more "lordly" than my actual characters. So I've been wondering If I should update some of my characters.
Robert de Rainault was one of them. I felt he looked very average.
It would appear that after he cheated the dwarfs out of their deal and bought the Tilean cannon instead, he could afford a new suit of armour from all the gold he saved.

Armour befitting of a noble tax extorter

Comparison to the old one

I'll have some knights finished soon.
And also happy new year

Some absolutely great looking knights. The heraldry is lovely. I always appreciate some well researched and well executed heraldry. :)

Thank you. I kinda go with the "if it feels good do it", when it comes to heraldry. I do put a little more thought in it for characters though.

The first 3 of my Chevaliers Rampants are done

I'm gonna have to be more careful with the pennants. I hardened them with superglue. It wasn't until I started painting them that I saw how uneven it had dried out.

I like the red and blue one in particular, it only annoys me that he looks more lordly than any of my characters, lol.

I'm almost finished with another 4, so I'll post them shortly.

Another 4 of my Chevaliers Rampants unit.

I've got two classic Bretonnian heads on these guys.

the red one with the white cross was a pattern I tried to copy from the 5th edition army book.

Only need to finish off the command crew now which are coming along nicely.
