sewers.of.estark’s armies & warbands

Incredible collection. Wonderfully painted. Colour me green with envy
Great thread, impressive painting and I am most impressed by the freehand stripey trousers and the pokadots.
Thank you both for such kind words :) happy to be able to show them off here!

I’m having a hard time deciding which project to work on as I’ve got so many half started warbands and an undead army calling my name.

Something I don’t have painted that I wanted to include in my rpgs are town guards. A year or two ago I received some 3d printed turnip28 torsos and bashed them together with some spare bits from empire sprues. Overall I’m quite happy with how the lot of them look and decided that now was the perfect chance to get these on the painting table. Unfortunately this left me with some serious decision making. Having not painted anything in the regalia of Estark, this project ultimately decides what colors I’ll be sticking with as I paint more heraldry and the like.

I ended up deciding on red, yellow, black and white. I don’t terribly hate it, but I’m still not entirely on board. Here’s my test piece I’d love to hear what you think - my thoughts at this time may be to add some extra thin black pinstripes to the trousers.

mm. if you could do a bit of black edging to the strips on the trousers, to more match the arms, then I would say job done ^_^ Looks like you can handle doing that small detail better then me.

First, I love the miniature. You've bashed him together very well from some really interesting pieces. And I love the general painting style. Very cheerful and it should look great on a gaming table. (Your knights v. ratmen shot makes it pretty clear it works very well indeed.) AS to the colors . . . red and yellow is always a great combination. The only suggestion I have is that the black lining makes the stripes stand out a bit more clearly to my eye on the tunic than the unlined stripes on the breeches. Not sure it's worth changing mind. It's a slight difference, and it looks great both ways. But there you have it. Lovely!

Thanks ManicMan, I think the additional stripes will be worth the extra effort!
I’m sure you could take on similar details yourself, I wouldn’t say I have any special skills!

Thank you- I’m pretty happy with how the lot of them turned out.
And an additional thank you for the comment on painting style/appearance on the table :)
I do think the additional black striping will improve the look here, I’m going to give it a go this afternoon before I get started on the next of his kin.

I appreciate the feedback from both of you!

Alright! My work on the guardsmen of estark is underway and while I finish them, here is something to take a look at. My most recent OWAC completion, the Chaos Dwarfs of Marak Ahlmund.
A slanneshi army of dwarfs, heavily inspired by Soft Cell, and more specifically Sex Dwarf. So here they are - knocking ‘em cold in black and gold

Let’s start big! The lord of these debased stunties- Marak Ahlmund. A conversion of a Grenadier drider & a blood bowl star player

And the last unit for now, with double handed weapons.

This was planned to be all of my chaos dwarf collection,. But since painting these I’ve picked up another half a dozen dwarfs and an asscannon so the debauchery continues!

very nice. Not too sure about the Goblins.. but that's just cause I'm bias to Kev Adams ^_^; but nicely done even so
Fair enough - I can’t say I’m much of a goblin fan in general, but I am fond of these little trapper critters ‍♂️
Glad you enjoy the rest of the lot :)

An update on my town guards.
Four nearly finished and a fifth well on the way.
I think I ended up having bits to make a dozen of them, so about halfway there.
I’ve also decided on a classic citadel figure to use as a guard captain, who will make an appearance with the rest of the lot in my next post here.

Where are these beaky helmets from? They look rather interesting. Historic medieval knights? Like the look of that unit, need to copy it
Thanks- the torso/heads are 3d printed turnip28 figures, I believe they are meant to be kitbashed with historical bits. Couldn’t point you in the direction of the files though as I received these in a trade quite a while back, hope that helps I definitely enjoy the style as well and would love to see your work on them!

They look good. I've got the Turnip28 STLs (such a sucker for that style of whimsical dark style), but have yet to do anything with them yet - the joys of the virtual lead pile!
