Orks, Orks and moar Orks (new Orks go to p. Eleven!)

Less of the negativity @ManicMan, the Necron background has been fleshed out somewhat in the years since and is a neat way of incorporating sci-fi skeletons aesthetics into the 40k setting IMHO, certainly no worse than sci-fi elves, knights and orcs! 😉

I expect Chaos Androids will come back at some stage. Much of what GW does today is mining the past for ideas.
Rogue trader era has space undead. Zombies, Vampires, androids (skeletons) etc.. not totally original but much better than the dull generic Egyptian stuff which was base in fashion at the time they made Necrons and Tomb King stuff ^_^

The destroyer had a datafax & flayed some Sisters of Battle in a battle report.
I do remember that but I thought that was 3rd Ed already. Now I know better!
I also remember watching Terninator for the first time as a kid and what completely blew our minds was the effect of a metal guy inside the meat guy. Woow, that's even cooler than a skeleton - which are already pretty cool - it's metal skeletor with laser eyes and guns - that's where the chaos androids originally come from, I think. I know once Star Quest came along, we called the androids "terminators". Never thought that egiptian trappings made them any cooler, they stopped being cool all by their boring selves a long time before their release.
That destroyer is still better and flashier than the old jet-cycle or jetbike though

^_^ (just for anyone that doesn't know, Star Quest was the weird name Space Crusade was called in some countries.. probably to cash in on Hero Quest)

And in that set all the aliens were robots, the space marine guns just deactivated them, cos killing stuff bad.
Yes, you're right! The German translation of the guns was some of the weirdest technobabble ever, while the clip-on weapons were obvious. Stil, nooo, that's no rocket launcher, that's a plasmolytic roboticorial or whatever.
Also, the marines were no marines, they were 'galaxy safe-guard' or, in short, GSG - which is the abbreviation for the German police's special task force 'Grenzschutzgruppe' -kinda like a federal SWAT force.
In the grim darkness of the far future there'll be cops and robots -in spaaace

Suddenly, a wild orc Necromancer appears!

Not exactly members of the warhorde in any edition but I like the Kev Adams Orc characters so much that I decided to add them to the wildboyz.

I do like the tiger stripe paintjob and had I known before how easy it is to apply, I probably would have made wider use of it.

Here's the whole bunch sans the Drillboss. They could be a band of adversaries for some dungeon-crawling heroes to overcome, or a chance encounter in the wilderness.

These are just awesome (and i love the use of the bllod bowl orc catcher as a surfer dude). Although let's face it, having discovered Tiger sttipes, you're going to be painting that scheme on half your models now! 😀

Thanks guys!
afaik there are no wildboyz whatsoever in 2nd Edition. RT had no limit to the number of wildboyz, only to the number of mobs of them which was usually one. That could be any size though with Goffs having to slot in a drillboss character for every five wildboyz.

Tiger stripes are a missed opportunity, I'm afraid. They would work great on the pirates who don't have enough yellow surfaces though. The Badmoons would turn into 'tiger squad' but they're supposed to be all yellow. Eh, we'll see what the futue holds for them

Ha, didn't know that, never owned a copy of the 2nd Ed box.

The Snakebite boyz were meant to complement the box release which came with a bunch of new ork releases which filled gaps in the already existing mini range. Cyboars had always existed - but never any specific or fitting riders. As soon as the snakebites on plastic boars were there, the super-cyboar vanished from all catalog pages or orc-related material. Would have been the perfect mini but no, not enough feathers, away with it. Le sigh. One of the most short-lived minis I know of

I presume the intent of the Codex Army Lists was that players would use their WFB orcs for the wildboys mob. Were wildboyz in the 1st ed. Ork hardbacks, and if so what form did they take? (I never had the Ork books, but my schoolfriend David did!)

You are correct. Wild Boyz (orcs) & Ogryns (ogres) in the 1st edition books used WFB miniatures as-is.

The Orks in Codex Imperialis/Codex Army Lists were a distillation of the 'Ere We Go & Freebooterz army lists which had over 100 units between them, many of them identical except for illustrations & text layout.
