Oldhammer on easyliveauction

Look - a real tabletop battle game and Warhammer Quest ;)

Not a lot of other interesting stuff up at present. A take a punt on the box contents auction and a very nice looking later edition of the WFB rulebook - not sure what version that would be - something around 6/7 I'd guess.

The Wessex Actions Room have got an absolute tonne of old and new Warhammer stuff in their auctions on the 14th/15th August some of which might appeal to people here. Evidently a couple of collections have been cleared out.

Lot 407

Lot 349 for anyone in need of some doom wheel wheels which I spy in that front box. As ever impossible to know quite what is in some of the other boxes without contacting them or going in person.

Lot 348 had a load of BattleFleet Gothic ships and 358 looks like a tasty pile:

Lot 362 I expect might sell for a fair amount as getting hold of those can be tricky these days and you'd hope with a couple of copies you'd be mostly complete.

I could keep going, lots of random bagged lead, so I guess if you loiter around Chippenham it might be worth a trip in person. Whilst I'd be tempted I suspect funds are a little on the low side at present and there are things I'd prefer to look at in person I think, so I'm going to try to pretend I didn't just spend half an hour looking. Still I expect it'll all end up on eBay in a few weeks at ten times the price :)

A a note to anyone new to "real" auctions is there are fees to pay on the final hammer price - often about 20% and in-house shipping services can be expensive so bear in mind if you bid £100 you might well end up being closer to £140+ by the time you get your mitts on the stuff. Still probably some bargains to be had and I expect it'll all go easily.

I have some experience as both a seller and a buyer with Wessex Auction Rooms. As a seller, I found the prices achieved were OK but not stellar. As a buyer, my reasonable (IMO) punts have generally been outbid very quickly. Wessex seem to have a lot of online followers and bidders with deep pockets.

FWIW, I've been to viewing days and chatted to the staff. They tell me that it's very rare for lots not to sell.

My advice? Only auction lots that you don't want the hassle of dealing with personally. Put in decent bids and don't expect to bag a bargain basement bonanza.

Most toys wins/ might need it later/ chasing the buyer's dopamine hit/ chronic man dolly addiction? TBF, some of my mates display such behaviours and thought processes. More than one in some cases.

why do people buy these games and leave them untouched?
Drifting off topic a little, but I bought Dark Imperium after seeing the new marines "in the plastic" at Warhammer World (a considerable time after release) and thinking they were actually rather good, but eventually ended up selling it untouched to a chap in Canada when I was having one of my "pile vs years left" moments and I though that seriously I was not going to get them painted and I'd rather be spending my time painting old lead and playing Rouge Trader anyway. So I guess that might happen in some cases. More surprising perhaps with the more "stand alone" games like Mordheim however.

Some folks on current model forums blithely talk about buying multiple copies of box sets upon release, does make you wonder how much shrink wrapped plastic is kicking around out there!

Seems a lot of the lots are shop stock. I was tempted to go as its my day off on Thursday but nothing really stands out for me apart from maybe the metal space marines, Sadly a lot of the images don't really show what is in the bags.

If you do pop in, let us know if you can decipher specific models.

As much as I would like Mordheim, it will no doubt sell high and the rules freely available on fan sites in a more manageable format! ;)

As much as I love Mordheim, I wouldn't recommend spending big on the boxed set. The rulebook's been superseded by an amended pdf only set so, you'd be shelling out for a few card and plastic buildings, plastic rulers and a flyer or two.

Anyone have any joy at auction? I certainly didn't. Both my two bids were blown out of the water PDQ.

Prices seemed quite high this time. I saw that the MIB High Elf Dragonlord reached a hammer price of £240 (to which VAT + fees will be added), but even old tat & modern plastic was selling for good prices. Hopefully, all the good stuff went to collectors rather than resellers though I doubt it. Keep an eye on eBay for even crazier than normal BIN lots.

I'm amazed at the prices reached for the Lots I was interested in and glad I didn't waste my time going. I can only assume that the loose bagged model were bought by someone physically at the auction as I think the prices reached would be a massive gamble for anyone who hadn't been able to look more closely at them.

Here's the hammer price for just some of them :

Yikes. I guess if you're reselling then some of those make sense - the £750 (so about £920 all done) for the first lot of marine has a few rarer models in there that I guess are going to be sold for £30+ and plenty at the £10-20 each easily enough and if you've got other bits of dreads maybe you can make up a few more. So I guess given there are at least 100 models in the lot to probably plenty of profit to be made if it's your day job even at that price.

Yikes those boxes - better hope they have some stuff in them. Gosh.

And totally on the bags - I'd not be punting that much blind. Still some nice models in some of the photos. Well next time I win the lottery and all.. ;)

Do people really spend £10-30 on single models ? I see plenty at that price on Ebay but they appear week after week as no one is paying that price. As for the box sets its not something I have any knowledge about but with the price paid its between £70-80 per box and no photos to show the state of the contents so for me another massive risk. I will keep an eye out on Ebay to see if they suddenly appear for sale.

I kinda have but it takes a VERY special model for a VERY special reason. on the whole, people charge alot on eBay and they never sell for that. Only rich people who want to get something they can show off really pay the top ends on some things.. alot of 'factory sealed' 80s miniature games are probably never gonna be opened.. just brought for the scalpers market as an 'investment'.

I watched some of a video a few years back by what are meant to be 'Magic the gathering' fans (never had any interest in the game) moaning how reprints are ruining the market cause it means there old cards aren't worth as much now... case in point on one reason I never had any interest in it. the investment market almost killed the comic book business in the lack 80s and 90s (DC Comics almost closed up shop and would have IF the Marvel President at the time didn't just say "Well, if they are doing that badly, they can't be any good so why would we want to buy them?", Marvel Comics went bankrupt twice in that period. Dark Horse was only kept going via Star Wars, plenty of small companies went under because if the big boys crash the market, they didn't have a leg to stand on').

This reminds me of a chat I had with my Local game shop owners this week. They have some GW stuff that is just not selling cause GW thought 'lets promo this stuff by sending out free copies to youtubers'. and the few which aren't lifeless puppets kinda say how crap it was, and now the stuff is stuck on his shelves in big boxes taking up space and not selling. (also had interesting talk on about Knight miniatures going under but that's another topic for another place).

But yeah.. eBay prices aren't sale prices. They are 'hopes and dreams' when they large start prices or buy now prices like that.

Easily. I needed a couple of Wierdboy characters for my Madboy Speedfreek project the other week so I spent nearly £60 on two models, one of which was bid up to just under £30.

The days of paying a couple of quid for a model are sadly long gone.
Yep, few years ago I got 2 'vet sgt Centurius' legion of the damned special character off eBay, one cost 40 the other cost 45. Easily done lol.
