Oldhammer Ahoy

having "never Backward" written in big on the sails is quite a thing too
To make sure that it lives up to this Paul should give it a huge ram, shouldn't he? ;)
BTW, Could we get a picture with a miniature in it please?
I'm amazed that 1/72 can look that good. I only know that scale from tiny soldiers.

Wasn't quite looking to name it after the past leaders of my illustrious family but the likes of the good sir James (The Black Douglas), Archibald the grim or James the gross all seem appropriate, but no - I've never been keen on naming things after people, as I recall the story of a chap who named his boat after a girlfriend, even registered it with Lloyd s of London, later, she had an affair and he renamed the boat - Whore of the Solent, there for time in memorial!   Watch this space as the work progresses - it may become apparent to those more observant of you?
I've not been to Tantalon (wrong side of the country for my branch of the family), but I've seen pictures & read descriptions - all interesting stuff - but, there's nothing quite like being there and seeing the lay of the land for yourself in my opinion. Hence the family motto 'Never behind' which I like to think of as leading from the front or by example; so maybe when I'm next over the border, I'll get there. :D

If it's a Douglas it'll probably be Archibald! Or Bell the cat, black Douglas, the good Douglas, the man without a spade in his head?
I took my daughter to see Tantalon castle, the red Douglas' holdfast during the summer, a unique and fascinating castle.

Water lined, forecastle and aft castle built. Need to get them glued in and the start detailing

I envy you for your work room (I have to work at the kitchentable).
Thats a really nice ship and I hope you will show your progress from time to time.
I am not sure if i should waterline my ship. The wheels might be useful for moving it about.
Here is my progress BTW. Still lots fo planking to do.

Re: AW: Oldhammer Ahoy

Actually I don't know if that guy really does fit my zombie pirates.
He looks dead dunk, not dead.
On the other hand does my crew contain Pipi Longstocking, Cerebus the aardvark some squats, a twoheaded (small) giant and soon even Snoopy...hmm, I think he will fit ;-)

That is a nice navigator.
Where is it from?

Re: AW: Oldhammer Ahoy

Thanks, No idea, picked it up on e bay a couple of weeks ago - Anybody know?

In hope

Thanks for this, wasn't sure how I was going to work - the thread, but I foresee interesting developments ahead! ;)

Can anyone join in?
:D

I have this and would love to start work on it again as a Living Ship for my Slann (which I dont have yet, but will do by then...)

....I never did get around to finishing it and I can see it working well as a basis for what I have in mind.

Can I play?

Please.
:D

Wow, what stunning idea, I don't foresee a problem with you joining in - as the general premise appears to be you build, you play. As for collecting the Slann between then & now - good luck I think your going to need a lot of it!

Thanks, Paul, that is good news.
I really fancy an excuse for finally finishing this thing off.
Now I just have to read through the thread again to figure out just how big it 'should' be .....

Fear not.
I have a cunning plan.

Looks very organic.
Does it still grow?
It might be too big in 2015 then:o

Oh, it shall grow.
Oh, yes!
:D

I've been thinking about and I would very much like to join in on Warhammer Ahoy but given that my building skills are completely untested I think building a whole ship is somewhat ambitious at this stage. I am thinking of bringing something along the lines of sea monsters. Maybe they pop up at random and attack the closest vessel? Would such a thing be plausible and keeping with the feeling of the event? I know Citadel made them for Dreadfleet and Man O'War but I am not sure about 28mmm scale and so this might be an interesting search....

Go get em!

Sorry to be a pain guys but I do not have the time to go through all 20 odd pages of posts (including all the brilliant pictures and ideas).

I am already building an WHF ogre army based on Bayou river pirates and figure I could knock out a Paddle steamer in time for BOYL 15.

Could I please have some quick answers to the following questions?
a) how many ships do I need (please let it be one)?
b) what size should it be?
c) if i'm using ogres how many do I need?
d) can I use leadbelchers as mobile cannons?

Thanks in appreciation of any help
