Old Hob's hobgobs

Individually they look great but when seen together just takes the models to another level. Think the contrast between the white clothing and red armour works especially well.

Thanks Dazza. I'm glad you like them. The red/white thing has sort of come about by accident, and after a fair bit of trial and error. I've got a handful of hobs that I painted for this unit now destined for the stripping jar, so that I can re-paint them in the same style. This project is going to take bloody ages...

Ooh, that banner is neat! That's a crazy looking miniature and you've done a fantastic job with him! :)

Thanks Symphonicpoet. It's a lovely old sculpt, that one, and a real treat to paint.

Here's the latest recruits to the Hobyars: Throg in his NWOBHMB pomp and 'Lips' Man-chewer tooting his horn.

So, that's the front rank done. Only another 3 ranks to go...

Thanks Sleepysod. It's slow going, and I keep making schoolboy errors, but I think I'm steadily getting there. Very much looking forward to later this year when I can finally get them on the table and throw some dice around with my mates.

they're looking good.
any ideas for cavalry? it always struck me that the steppe dwelling hegemony should be heavy on cavalry, preferably riding yaks.

Hi Twisted Moon. Thanks for the kind comments.

Yes, I agree that a Steppe force should be cav heavy. I hadn't considered yaks, though

On a whim I picked up a job lot of the later GW plastic wolves, but to me they just look like fat dogs! So I scrapped that plan straight off. I have, however, managed to get hold of a few cheap Chronicle orc wolf riders on eBay and have also bought some ex-Grenadier wolf riders and mounts from Forlorn Hope (both sets by Nick Lund). The plan is that these will be the Hobyar elite cav, with a view to getting some classic gobbo wulfboyz for light cav/skirmishers at some point in the future. Also, I want chariots. Lots and lots of chariots...

How about wagons rather than chariots? With yaks rather than ogres (a la Dolgan raiders) as the beasts of burden?

searches '28mm yak' online

Now there's a thought... You could stick a ballista on the wagon a bit like a galloper gun, only slower, hairier and more smelly. Hmmm...

As always great work and love the colour palette. On the subject of wolfboyz Knightmares Greenskin Wars ones are pretty good. I think that Nick Lund wolves would really suit your hobs.

Thanks inchmurrin. Knightmare is a good shout for the wulfboyz - classic Kev Adams' evil little gits. I've spent many hours drooling over their webstore, but haven't taken the plunge yet. The Pantheon of Chaos range is also insanely good.

^I need to paint up some of those Knightmare/Kev Adams gobbos myself. (I aim to use them to fill out my grot mobs.) Love the last couple of hobgobs there. The fellow with the severed head looks suitably menacing. And that weird flesh sack looking . . . weapon? . . . I can't quite make out what exactly the other fellow is holding. But it looks scary! If you go the yak route with your cav or carts I really want to see it! Awesome stuff! :)

 Brilliant! I'm very pleased with that response.

He's the musician from the RR15 Despoiling Hobgoblins of the Darklands, but I could never work out whether he had some kind of twisted chaotic trumpet or was blowing into the anuses of four Darklands snakes simultaneously. I opted for chaos trumpet, but 'weird flesh sack' is absolutely fine with me.

Should I ask to see the other angles on that or will I be forever scarred?

*looks inward at own soul*

Nah, it's too late for me.

So . . . you got any other angles on that? Can't be any worse than what I'm picturing.

(Oh please, let it be worse!)

Here we go symphonicpoet - not the best photo I'm afraid.

There are much better photos on the Stuff of Legends site http://www.solegends.com/citrr/1rr15throggs/index.htm

And yes, he does indeed have a spikey codpiece!

I've really enjoyed painting the Jes Goodwin hobgobs. They've got bags of character with just the right level of nasty. A couple of the RR15 'troopers' will be joining a motley collection of C36 hobgobs in the rank and file for this unit, which I'm making my usual snail-paced progress on.

Hi ya folks. After a couple of rather hectic weeks, I managed to blag a bit of hobby time over the weekend. To get my painting mojo back, and inspired by epicsatsuma's insanely brilliant Ork banner, I had a crack at some freehand shields. They're pretty rough and ready, but I'm quite pleased with them all the same.
