Your miniatures are amazing. I am struck by the combination of techniques-blends, edge hi lights, freehand-and how well they all work together. Thank you for sharing your photos.

I did chuck a couple of minis I painted last year back in the stripping jar.

You're making me consider dumping nearly all my marines back in the stripping jar. By and in large they're my oldest painted miniatures, and you're doing such lovely work that you're making me rethink the wisdom of my choices! Lovely stuff. :)

You're too kind! I feel like most of the time I'm fumbling around with techniques I only learned yesterday so it's nice to hear that people find the result aesthetically pleasing.

Thanks! Make sure you take good photos of them before you strip them! I was returned some of my childhood miniatures earlier this year which I had thought were long lost and took some pics before stripping them to repaint... I still haven't got around to repainting them to do a before/after but it's on the cards for once I get through some more Marines!

^Oh, of course. A good before and after comparison is always nice. :) And I've got such a mountain of other things to paint it probably won't happen anytime soon anyway. The marines are, after all, at the very least playably painted. The faces aren't as crisp as some of my newer miniatures, but they're usable enough to stay on the back burner for a long time. But your stuff is so nice it does make me itchy. ;)

I painted Chuck! The original Contemptor Dreadnought:

^^I'ma gonna have to save that one away. It feels like it would do almost equal duty as either a compliment or an insult. Heady stuff!

^Well done Angry Griffin! This is definitely shaping up very well.

Love Chuck, Angry Griffin! Is that a flowing cape he's wearing? The (wet-blended?) neon green eyes look great.

Thanks guys! That sure is a cape - had it spare from a mini I used for basing materials and couldn't resist. The eyes are glazed more than wet blended, but there's a bit of that in there too. Glazing is certainly easier than wet blending with acrylics if you only mix with water!

Cheers!

I have yet to find a mat I really like - though finding one has admittedly been low priority as there's painting to get done!

I guess my biggest compliment would be to say if I had these models I would want them painted exactly as you have. They really capture the spirit of those classic model. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I really appreciate that. This guy isn't metal but it's definitely nostalgic for me - and it took me a month of painting time to get him to this point. I think that's about as well as I can paint a mini at this stage. No decals, all freehand.

Ah, the classic generic 2nd ed Marine. Is that blue shading on the Knee skull or shading via not putting on the white as much?
