• Welcome to the Golden Gobbo painting competition. If you'd like to read some of the ancient history you can on the Realm of Chaos 80s blog.

This competition is held some years and you'll find threads here describing how to enter and when the competition is running (typically after BOYL each year).

Other than the fame and wonderment of your peers there is often a prize kindly donated and you'll have the wonder of being awarded badges for your profile here.

GG 2025 Golden Gobbo '25

Hello, may I present a Conqueror robot for my entry please? WD104 was my first WD and I’ve absolutely loved Bob Naismith’s robots ever since. The rules are completely bonkers, but very imaginative and the whole vibe just ticks my box!

Rufus "Red Leader" Gloinsson loves nothing more than the feel of the wind in his beard, swooping over the peaks of the Grey Mountains west of Karak Azgaraz, hunting orc and goblins to help his clan carve out a new hold.

The grey beard engineers call him and his fellow aeronauts reckless, taking to the skies in contraptions that have only been tested for a mere 27 years, but Rufus is confident in his "bird", racing along the ridges with the falcons. He knows her inside and out, every nut, bolt and flange. Although if pressed, after a few pints of Bugman's, he'll admit to being puzzled why his machine always seems to outpace those of Borri and Gotrek, they're identical to the last widget, bar for Borri's having a blue paint job and Gotrek's green...

(Hopefully the pictures have come out at a decent resolution and the details show, I can swap them if not. https://photos.app.goo.gl/K25AqtFYNqcFdTFY6 Google photo album link with a couple more shots. I really enjoyed this and having the goal helped me get it done, as it's been stupidly busy and I probably wouldn't finish for ages if not for Golden Gobbo. Got to try new things with inks, OHL light effects, pigments (soot above the furnace) and the toadstools were my first ever scratch built green stuff creations, so it's been a real learning curve. Not sure when orcs being fungus based came in, or whether that was just 40k, but I like the idea and wanted to play with it)

Nice. I do need to get myself an original gyrocopter again. Such understated quality
I've got three, this one (my original I got in the late 80's/early 90's) and two in bits from eBay I got recently. The idea is to have a blue and green one, but I definitely won't be sticking the rotor blades on before painting the next one, that was a right pain in the bum! They seem to work best on the battlefield as multiples, as one attracts a lot of attention. Once I've got my legacy model done, I'll set up a "work in progress" thread.
