Well escaping for a moment from the joys of Christmas and since I've not posted a finished model for an age, I thought I'd post up my Forgeworld Rogue Idol. I still need to add some tufts and flock on the beast, but otherwise he's finished up and ready for the tabletop. I tried to get some variation in the rock colours and tried to make it look like the glyphs were painted on (probably with blood) and have been worn away over the years. Far too recent a creation to count as oldhammer, but it's a cool model anyway!

This fella is about 5" tall, so not on a par with the chunk of mountain over on this thread from Jprp.

Well done! And hey, in that paint and with that treatment I'd definitely say he passes for oldhammer. Old as the hills. Rock is older than dirt, right? Love it!

And now for some more orcs... my original Harboth's Orc Archers, only taken however many decades to paint them... and even now I've not done the command section yet! Bit of a slow painter!

Of this lot there was one I'd painted as a kid (although I did a bit more work on him), the others received a little bit of cleaning up (why do I only spot the mold lines in the photos - maybe I can bodge it as a vein?) and reprime and I set about doing a simple paint job. Nothing fancy about them, but I'm pleased with the final set. Hopefully in another 30 years or so I might have a painted army!

Thank you for the nice comments. Harboths and Ruglards are probably some of my favourite sets of models.

Now speaking of old and new(er) models my brother fished out two of my old Squig Hoppers (so a bit more midhammer than oldhammer I guess). One a year or two ago and I recently stripped off the old primer and finally painted it, the other he found a week or two ago and is one I remember painting back in the day. Not sure exactly when, but when I was still young and fancy free. Alas it does have a few chips from the years (poor nose), but I thought it'd be nice to put them side by side and see how my painting has changed (or not). I guess there must the best part of 30 years between these models, but that does include a painting hiatus of 10-15 years. Alas the skin highlights are a tad flattened on the new fella in the photo (something I must work on), but he certainly looks fresher in my cabinet. Plus I went off flight stands somewhat and tend to use black brass rod these days.

And of course what always happens when I post a picture is I spot something like the fingernails which I forgot to paint. Well I suppose I can do that before varnish at some point! *sigh*

Love the pirates I was in the too cartoony believers but will now have to take another look. These are most definitely Oldhammer in concept. Not to mention great paintjobs of course!

Thank you. They were quite good fun to paint. The 'captain' actually has a squig like pet that I'd forgotten about and found the other day which I should paint and add to them. My problem with goblins is I like so many different styles of goblin I have no consistency in the collection of random models I now own. I have some of my old Night Goblin army still - mostly the special models (like the hoppers above), I'm slowly getting some of the models I should have painted decades ago done now!

The finished pretty photos are over on the Orctober thread, but to round things out here is a shot of the entire orc horde...

Now I just have about 50 goblins to go!

I quite enjoyed painting my monopose (ish) pile of orcs. Certainly doing the contrast (well Xpress Colour) paint was interesting, I'd perhaps use it again and I've some more snotlings to do at some point so maybe then. Then there are all those goblins - they will get the same treatment so I think I'll probably manage to use most of my bottle of orc flesh tone.
