Orctober 2023

Just about finished the basic work on them now. Bit more tidying up of the flesh, then onto some detailing and highlight cleanup. Although I might do the basing before that.

Slapchop and contrast paints still don't totally satisfy me. I'm quite please to have bashed these out, but they do feel a little rough and ready. Still there is plenty more in the lead pile I can take my time with so I'm not too concerned!

I managed to finish most of my FTO Orcs and Armoured Orcs before the end of the month and here they are.

Painted a lot of orcs this month, but none over 20 years old. But I really wanted the Orctober badge! So I've dug out a C16 orc from the pile of opportunities and quickly coloured him in.

Still needs a coat of matt varnish, but as that certainly won't dry before the deadline I'm saying he's done. Can I have my badge now please?

Spare Battle Masters Plastic Orc. I gave him some yellow face markings loosely based on one of the Dulok's from the Star Wars cartoon 'Ewoks' (not really a star wars fan but more so of the original stuff then whatever Star Wars became post 1998 ¬_¬)

The Shield design I'm not completely happy with but is based on one from Warhammer Armies (3ed). Haven't got the base done yet cause I need to double check with my Hero Quest 25mm rounds cause I'm thinking I could put him as the Orc Warlord's Son.

I finished this rider back in September, did all its separate gear in Orctober, but could not finish his mount in time...hope this counts somewhat

Finally got the camera out today to take a photo of my finished orcs ...

I'm pleased to have churned out the quantity. Other than some varnish I think I will call them done. Certainly ready for the tabletop! Will I try SlapChop again? Maybe, I didn't dislike it and it's certainly quick for doing the basics (although getting a good smooth underpaint layer takes time). I've still got a tonne of goblins from this haul to paint, but those are not even primed yet, so something for the future.

Well a month late, but massive appreciation for all the orc and goblinoid goodies on display from everyone. Stonking Orctober I think!
Last few hours for the Golden Goblin and Gnomevember then and we're dumped into Deadcember. What a time of the year!
