Brattish Behaviour & Dandy Canes - Painted Bratts

@Captain Crooks - can't believe I missed that issue ^ ;)

Right then, if you read the blog, you'll know about the Brat Giveaway competition. If not, I offered to convert and paint a Brat ganger to a custom design. I've just finished painting the chap up - first ever attempt at checks and I'm pretty happy with the results!

That be one flashy git. You inspired me to try stripey pants, now i have to try checks also

First time you say? :!: Those look perfect! You made an amazing job both on conversion and painting!

Oooh, that is nice! The checks turned out very well.

How long until you start sculpting complete models from scratch? ;)

Thanks guys!

Yep - first time on the checks. I spent a bit of time researching techniques - this was a grid drawn with a fine nib technical pen and just filling in the squares. Wasn't as tricky as I'd feared!

phreedh - I keep thinking about it, but I always come back to the fact that it would just take so long to end up at a reasonable standard :)

Great paint job, I am always shying away from geometrical patterns on clothes, never get it quite right with the folds and such. Yours look spot on.

you sure took your time updating the thread ;)

I know! I parked the Brats after BOYL for a little while...in fact probably will do again as I've got other gangs to paint before I paint more Brats!

Thanks :) It really helped that the clothing was pretty smooth by and large. There's some slightly crooked transition areas across the backside of the trousers and on his left arm, but I think by and large it's not noticeable.

Good job, I knew I should have bribed you to let me win hehehe

You should have indeed! Maybe you need to save up for next year's bribe? ;)

I find it surprising that you haven't done checks before. At your skill I figured you were an old pro. I starred with them the same way, but quickly found it's easier to skip straight to the brush.

I guess you could say I'm newly discovering techniques in spite of painting figures for donkey's years. Up until 2-3 years ago, my sole painting technique was dry brushing over a base coat. Steadily I've added edge highlighting, washes and inks. It all makes me wonder why I didn't do it years ago!
