Axiom's Miscellaneous Painted Stuff

I normally consider it to be a sacrilege to cut up beautiful old lead miniatures, but you just make them look so damn good.

You'd hate to see my new cabinet with my models on display - I've just tallied up and of the 130ish models, 86 are cut up old lead (dating from 1985-1991)

But then, I'm not a collector of pristine old models, I don't believe that a model is untouchable just because it is out of production, and converting is a massive part of the hobby. I'd much rather adapt to my own purposes and I'm confident enough that there are enough other copies to go around for people who prefer to have the original as produced :)

you are perfectly right. And the conversions you shared here and on your blog looks amazing.
The use of the word 'sacrilege' comes from my own miserable attempts in my youth

I'm with you on that one. Converting miniatures is probably my favourite part of the hobby, even over painting or gaming them. It's what makes a model unique to my armies.

Thanks guys! I'm looking forward to seeing all the trenchcoat-wearing 40k detectives that are going to be made now ;)

And seeing as I'm still enthused about painting stuff, I got out the brushes again last night and painted up this chap:

I must admit, it had been a decade or two since I'd last painted an Astropath, and I was really pleasantly surprised to discover how wonderfully simple this sculpt is. There's hardly any detail (just skin, a robe, a bag and a cane), but the pose and facial expression tells you everything you need to know about the character. A very enjoyable 2 hours painting :)

As ever, more over at the blog.

I was going to paint something else last night, but Korm was looking lonely, so Yerl got done instead :)

Both astropaths are wonderful sculpts. I very much enjoyed painting Yerl up :)

More pics and text on the blog.

Beautiful execution, and yes simple but oh so full of character... those two astropaths are high up on my wish list(too many items on that list)

Thanks guys - you're keeping me fully motivated to paint more

And I have some figures from my bonus evening of painting last night - my horse-headed oddity (now called Equus; Ecclesiarchy combat servitor), and a little chaos familiar I painted up for the painting club in the challenges forum. Here are the results:

The servitor is a conversion of the flagellent from the old fighters range, with the addition of a plastic horse skull and a sword from my bits box. I added some trailing cables and a bionic eye to give a more 40k look :)

More pics and text over at the blog.

Thanks guys :) I agonised over the colours on the horse-headed guy...I wasn't sure whether to make him more grimy (in line with the current Blanchesque fad in Inq28). In the end, I decided to broadly keep to my standard painting style (colour and technique) - I don't think I'm ready to go all out with inks and washes just yet!

My latest two figures are linked purely by the fact that they are aliens and bald!

Sonny Bundgaard's alien merchant (sculpted by Sonny for the Frothers 2014 sculpting competition). A lovely, simple, characterful sculpt - right up my street!

An unreleased genestealer magus (sculpted by Andy Foster) from a fellow hobbyist's collection. The sculpt is what it is - an early amateur sculpt (Andy's now a fine sculptor), with lots of rough and dodgy areas, compounded by a large miscast area on his chest and huge mouldline across his head. Now all sorted :)

You're being very productive. And such high quality. And damn, that Magus certainly unique and really great looking

Thanks guys!

Yeah - I'm not sure what's happened so far this year Dooz - I'm enjoying painting, and have a regular painting evening, so I figure I may as well make the most of it. Who knows how long it will last? ;)

Horse-head is ace. One of those "I better steal that idea!" models.

Magus is fun. I get the points you made about the model, but I still like it. I'd be happy if I could buy that staff on its own!

Latest off the painting table is my attempt to make and paint something Blanchian. I present Wyrm, creature of chaos:
