any interest in 'how to do oldhammer'?

a little over a mere twelve years ago, @whiskeypriest proposed a challenge / recruitment drive. paint twenty figures and a character figures that were either cheap second hand (still possible for citadel, in those days) or currently available, then turn up at salute the following year to slap them all on a table and play a game of (presumably) wfb3. this would showcase oldhammer as an inclusive, living movement rather than one for nostalgic old geezers with extensive collections gathered back in the day.
the first bit happened, with lots of folks painting up fantasy and sci-fi offerings, but the game at salute was never organised.
bumping into @lenihan at bring out your lead last year, he suggested we try and bring the game to the tabletop at this years event.
whether you painted up the requisite figures all those years ago, or will do so between now and august are you interested? if so, should the game be fantasy (wfb2 or 3) sci-fi (wh40k:rt), one of each, or a mix of the two?

The deadline to book tables at Salute was before Xmas am afraid unless your friend has already booked something?

I only know as @Fimm McCool has been helping me organise a table for The Woods and I had to get details confirmed a few months ago.

I'd like to play, but I'm planning to playing Space Fleet on Friday at BOYL (Or should that read - I should be commited ?), there's then Blood in the Snow, which is in the hands of those painting Mafu's collection, so big question on that one, but will probably be Saturday, which leaves Sunday, not really the day to be engaging with the masses as it tends to be the die-hards.
On second thoughts - Oh blow it, as most of you know I picked up a rather mixed bag of miniatures, so can put something together by August fairly easily from that lot - so expect an uneasy alliance of Dwarves, half orcs, humans and others, happy to play whatever set of rules the majority choose to play with?
I presumme basic stat line for the majority of figures with a level 2/ten hero to lead, so nothing over fifty/sixty points plus equipment and no to, or minimal magic items?

More or less yes. The thing is, we're going to have to deal with some radical asymmetries given the format (i.e. if someone paints 21 skaven that's very different to if they paint 21 chaos warriors!) - so the trick will be how to come up with a way of running the scenario that deals with that. I think each warband will have quite different objectives tailored to that; plus potentially "free gifts" for underpowered warbands (cool magic items etc). It'll be fun to work out!

Obviously the initial idea as mooted by Whisky Priest was two units of 10 with a boss dude, using all in-production minis. But people can be flexible around that initial vision as long as they stick to the magic number of 21. Then the GM/ GMs can look at how the different warbands are constituted and build that into their GMing.

I won't be there but think the ideas great especially as the original concept is what really got me back to painting toy soldiers. I'd be happy to provide a warband of chaos types for someone to play with at the event probably monopose chaos warriors and beastmen with a metal hero.

I love the warband you did for this back in the day!

I think TM meant to bring to BOYL.

I did indeed.
This sounds fun, would it be acceptable to pull still available minis from my own collection rather than purchase something specifically?

if you hadn't told us, we'd have never known. I think it's in the spirit of accessibility of oldhammer.

i think 12 years on, we're probably a bit beyond worrying about that.
i am unlikely to get there on friday, but am happy with either other day. i'll discuss with @lenihan and also see what table availability is like. size of table will depend on numbers participating.
Hopefully I can ... get that many painted up

i have every faith in you.
