Metal Nostalgia Force painted models

Well. A long time between paintjobs... I tried something different this time around to get a mini over the finish line more quickly - this time airbrushing inks (red from below, green from above), picking out the silver/brown/gold/skin/brain and then an oil wash over the relevant bits, letting that sit and sponging it off again. Took maybe 1/3 as long as my usual paintjob and other than missing a few rivets and making the pouch on his left leg armour I'm happy with it. Nice to get a mini done while struggling to find the time to dedicate to more involved painting.

I had no idea he had an exposed brain based on the catalogue pic... always a nice surprise to find unexpected details.

Wow, that's brilliant. It's amazing to see all the detail on the model highlighted and enhanced by an outstanding paint job.

It’s gross. I love it.

Haven't had a lot of online time lately to keep things up to date but I have got a couple of things painted.

This guy I actually had painted... must have been a year ago, except for his lascannon arm. I couldn't get the stripes the way I wanted and just put it on the shelf and forgot about it. It was a nice surprise to find that I had almost finished him when I found him haha.

Then it was LE2. This guy I have had several cracks at before but have never managed to get him painted in a way I was happy with - I found the gun in particular challenging to pick out the details on in a satisfactory way. Enter painting "dirty". I'm not super happy with the sharpness of the transitions between dirty and clean on the armour but I'm still new to it, and it's my best attempt at him yet.

Painting with a dirty wash like that made me think of the RT Mechanicus minis, so I then trundled off down that path but not before taking a slight detour and testing it out again on Irn-Bonce:

More pics here. From then it was onwards to Mechanicus Adeptus 1:

That guy was great to paint - after not being sure what to make of Bob Olley's sculpting at first I have really come to love painting his work. More pics here.

Then another of the Mechanicus range - the Squat servitor:

More pics here. He was also an absolute joy to paint and I'm working on the two remaining servitors I have from that range now - just the female servitor and Squat Adeptus left to source and I should have all of the released RT Mechanicus minis done as a set.

Mind you, I have been somewhat distracted by one of the RT Pirates but the servitors shouldn't be far behind.

They look great. And I’m glad you followed the inspiration trail to Olley’s sculpts. Truly one of the greats.

Cheers! I need to look up what he did after leaving Citadel - his sculpts really hit a sweet spot for me in terms of balancing the level of detail and interesting textures against the size of the model.

good work all round.
i like the 'even in death' badge but would have preferred 'how am i driving?'.
irn bonce's mate is an excellent take on a suit of squat dreadnought armour.

quite a bit, including having at least one company of his own.
