finally a return to sci-fi projects.
many years ago, before i had many sci-fi miniatures, two hour wargames chain reaction went on sale at a price i couldn't resist having read a fair few battle reports.
i bought a packet of glow in the dark toy spiders to use as the game controlled opposition force.
chain reaction wasn't really for me (although i should give it another go), but i still have the spiders.
the spiders are as they came, my work here is all in the bases.
they have a significant leg-span and so required 60mm diameter bases. i had a couple, but only a couple of mdf bases in that size.
rather than buy more, i decided to make a couple of masters using various bits of junk i've collected and have lying around, and use these to make hot glue press molds (having seen that in a few youtube videos and discord channels), and then cast the bases with milliput.
the molding process ripped most of the junk off the mdf bases, so if i want more i'll be making different ones. the hot glue is not very supple (i perhaps laid it on too thick) so i'm using talcum powder as a release agent.
obviously i've painted and washed them, then attached the spider super glue. as you can see, it's gone a bit gloopy, i presume that's because it's very hot at the moment. i may paint over it once it has fully cured.
i'm calling these beasts vacuum spiders, and they'll play the role of any space bugs i may require, including genestealers.
