Zog's models

Thanks Suber and Warburton!

Here's a couple of Asgard/Vikingforge models: A Jes Goodwin barbarian and a female dwarf (who may or may not look really old, or more like a hobbit!). I may paint the eyes of the dwarf later, if I remember...

An Asgard orc I started ages ago:

And just a reminder of how small some of the models in this range are :) Admittedly, these slave orcs are the smallest.

Hi again. I've ignored this log lately since much of what I paint isn't quite the vintage this forum is know for.

Today I finished some models that are a little closer, if only because Kev Adams models are usually pretty safe :)

Here's a bit of WIP, too. The Phagon is the second one I've painted. If I finish this one, I'm up to one every second year! I guess my squad of five will take a while :(

Those Phagons do seem to be getting around of late. I have a few I picked up sitting on my painting shelf waiting for a vague bit of inspiration to strike. Nice work all around.

Thanks! Isn't that always the way though? When I ordered them I didn't already know the range, so I only had their awful photos and pretty much one site that had some pics of his. I took a bit of a punt buying them at the time (and of course was very happy with them) and now every second Rogue Trader blog has them :) If I were to order them based on the more recent photos I've seen, I would have bought more!

***** Bit of repost from elsewhere, sorry if you've seen this before :) *****

I bought some Heroclix hexes some time ago, hoping to paint them up as a campaign board but I never got past the first lot. I decided to do some more which will double as dungeon terrain if I never use them for a campaign (I'm thinking a map is easier to keep track of everything and less likely to have any army tokens/counters knocked over!).

Anyway, I hope you like. I've seen them used for terrain (hills and for dungeon games) plenty of times before, but I really can't stand the pre-painted plastic look as seen in the first photo. Painted up, they still look a little toy-like but the look has grown on me. My terrain is often functional over realistic, and these will do until I do a "proper" dungeon set. They kind of make me want to play a hex boardgame so I can paint more up

(By the way, the reason they aren't clicked into each-other is because they were freshly painted and not yet clear-coated :)

I bought my first couple of Phagons off the e-Bee from a listing that didn't even say what they really were. They were listed as "Imperial Guard Chaos Cultist Beastmen Proxies." At the time I couldn't find them, but I liked them and they were only a couple of dollars a miniature. Later on I figured out what they were, bought the civilians and ships crew direct, and got them painted leaving the first Phagon STILL sitting in the cue.

Empire update today:

(That's three of the same model so far in my unit of three flagellants! I do have others, so they are next.)

The detail has been lost a little on these since they weren't stripped before repainting. I might add a wash to the brown hat before sealing.

Hm, I'm not that sure if it's worth starting a separate thread in the WIP section (seems plenty of others post WIP in their showroom threads). Anyway, at least it may motivate me to finish these over the next couple of days :)

More WIP, Black Tree Design hobbitses, GW & DSA/Armalion humans and a Ral Partha ogre:

Hi everyone, I haven't posted much lately - been very busy in "real life" which is a rude change to my usually boring, content routine. I've decided to focus on posting more appropriate miniatures here rather than just everything I happen to paint. Hopefully everything is a little more in the spirit of the forum. :)

Anyway, here's something certainly old (but still available - my favourite sort!), Asgard/Vikingforge stunties!

Here they are in one of my recently re-set up glass shelves (note to self, never dismantle them again).

Finally, a WIP of what I should finish next - one of my favourite orcs that was stuck on the undercoated stage far too long.

More! I finished Mr. GW orc today.

That's a display cabinet to my liking, great collection. Very much like the orc, nice shield design!

First we discussed Erny's kitchen, now this display cabinet!

They look good though!

Thanks gents! Very encouraging to get feedback like this. Subedai, the shield was fun to paint, but sadly the texture/cast is very rough, so I made it less ambitious than I wanted to. Next time, perhaps.

Anyway, here's a full shot of the display at the moment. It's fairly empty because I really want to fill it with models I've painted in the last year or two. If it looks too bare, I can drag out my undead or Nurgle armies.

Wait a second... Kitchen? Cabinet? Typing that may bring more of those "Kitchen cabinet cheapest in the UK" spam ads! :)

I also finished my pack mule bloke from Reaper. Kind of a poor man's Citadel "complete adventurer", which a few companies seem to have made. Actually, it's a poor man's, poor man's version since it's the "bones" plastic version of the metal model. :) As with most small bones figures (as opposed to anything ogre-sized or monster, which I really like) I kind of wished I had the metal one as I was painting it. Pretty soft detail, especially the face. I don't care what anyone says, the material just feels different, too. When stuck in a unit and considering the price I can't really complain. I'd love to add one or two to every Brettonian unit I paint, even have them trying to catch up at the rear of a knight unit!

Finished a flamer earlier. Pretty simple, but lots of fun and makes a nice change from my usual models which use lots of browns.

Nice flamer there, Zoggin! Also like the ecclectic mix of guys in the shots prior. Asgard Goodwin... mmmmm.... :)

The figures look great! Very fine brush work and rich colors. I notice the primer you use is especially gritty and a suggestion, I think if you try a smooth primer you'll find you can step on your game even more. :) Metals, skin, you name it. In the states Dupli-Color is second to none. Not sure what the European equivalents are. Your painting is so good though you should start with the best!

Very late thanks, phreedh and Spooktalker.

Not at all... that's just my painting!

The primer I use is pretty much the thinnest paint I've ever used. In fact, that's the idea since I can use multiple coats without losing detail. The grittiness is my drybrushing and pretty messy highlighting and layering. The primer and lack of grit probably looks best in the earlier wip halflings posted further back. It pretty much depends on how quickly I'm painting. Ages ago I decided on a messier style, just to get models finished quickly. I get bored and want to move onto the next model! Anything really precious, I'll white undercoat and try making it look much smoother (oh, and remember more often to thin the paints!).

Anyway, here's some more recent models. Most of what I paint isn't of interest to this forum, so I'll try to limit what I post.

There was a little interest in the Eureka chaos models when they were originally released, but I've never seen any painted except the ones on Eureka's site. I think they could fit into most chaos armies, especially Realm of Chaos campaigns. Perhaps a little more cartoony than most models (some remind me of the mutants from Futurama!), but good fun. I bought these and others at a convention last year and some of the newer ones at their store more recently. There are way more available than shown on their site. Lovely models, lots of character, good value and well cast! I actually plan on buying one of everything from the range...
