[WIP] Building of Ruins of Mordheim modular table

Going to be interesting to see what scheme you go for when painting!
Has a slightly different aesthetic to that OOTB grimdark.
i am very impatient for that to begin.
The outer walls will be white with streaks, the outer beams painted black. The edges of the walls will probably also be blackened - burnt. I will try to decorate the inner walls with wallpapers, I have a box of offcuts left and maybe something will be suitable, and painted colorfully. I am currently covering the pink XPS with wood glue mixed with potting soil to give it texture. In turn, I will probably paint the wooden floors black, and with gray and white abrasions imitating damaged wood exposed to fire and atmosphere.
It's really cool to see them with some models - brings them to life that bit more and you can see how playable they are going to be. I still love the floors overhanging that bit on the bases. I'm also looking forward to seeing some paint on them - they look this good unpainted, I can't wait to seem them all finished.
Thanks! I think the colors should start showing up on the models after the holidays. I gave myself a year for the project and half of that time has already passed.

Workshop: Struttendorf, part 24.

After the initial preparation of the building model from the City Ruins and Town Ruins sets from Kromlech, it was time to build some additional terrain elements.

First up were the bastion/redoubt models, which I built from styrodur, coffee sticks, bamboo strips and clay bricks.

Today the second of the building model, which looks as follows.

Workshop: Struttendorf, part 25.

After the initial preparation of the building model from the City Ruins and Town Ruins sets from Kromlech, it was time to build some additional terrain elements.

Today I have for you photos of the monument on which the statue of the founder of the city of Struttendorf was - I used the Ottokar von Struttendorf Memorial Statue from Dunkeldorf Miniatures, which you could see HERE.

In turn, you can find a guide about making candles HERE.

I built the rest so that the style would match the previously presented ruins.

That is very cool - what a centre piece. Great stuff.
ziggurat of doom.
Thank you very much! :)

Workshop: Struttendorf, part 26.

It's hard to present a river in progress in an impressive way, especially when it's partially painted black.

Either way, it was supposed to be a short river running from one edge of the table to the other, but in the end, a few extra modules were added.

There's also a river bridge from Kromlech.eu included in the set.

Next week, I’ll show you how I built the river.

How did you design the joints of the tiles? I dream of building a proper modular river for 20+ years; current version of the dream is to 3d print the joints as a contour, this will make everything line up nicely, with the stretch between two 3d printed joints being freely scratchbuilt.

Mine have laser cut end profiles. One day I will get around to drilling and magnetising them. If you have a wooden template it's not that arduous to cut foam core ends or even just thick card ends that match closely enough. It's the square breaks in the water surface that bother me with modular river sections.

I will write more on the blog on Thursday, but...
I started by preparing the separators where the individual modules will connect, ensuring they fit together properly.

I cut the separators from XPS foam and then glued them with polymer adhesive to the modules cut from plasticard.

Proper dedication to the craft!!
Thank you!
Tutorial: River.

🔧 “Build a river,” they said. “It’s easy,” they said…

So I built one. Last week I showed you how it turned out — and now you can do it too!

A brand new hobby tutorial just dropped on the DansE MacabrE blog, where I walk you through the process of building a river for tabletop wargames — perfect for Warheim FS, but just as useful on the grim and plastic ruins of Mordheim, Frostgrave, or any other misery simulator you play.

Inside the post:

materials as cheap as a politician’s promises,

more photos than your average influencer’s trip to the supermarket,

and zero arcane knowledge — just the right amount to qualify as a Facebook expert!

💬 Link below. And once you've read the guide — go make your own river.
As a certain dwarven cartographer once said:
“If you don’t build it yourself, your opponent will flood the battlefield with beer.”

LOLOL, that made me chuckle!

I'm looking forwards to the first posting of something painted and finished. :)
I'm definitely closer to painting than I was at the beginning. ;)
Nice modular design. Are you planning to ornament the pillars?
Yes, definitely some, because they are good shooting platforms in themselves. I don't know yet, maybe I'll put some warrior/guard statues there.
