Now you tell me. Love Bettys. Probably because I lived in Ilkley as a teenager & have often visited York since moving south years ago.
Vile stuff, and marmite. People that eat marmite need locking up for crimes against humanity. Not really a liquorice fan…![]()
I remember the Viking centre in York, went in 87 or 88 in primary school, never been back though. Odd considering I lived in Southport then Liverpool as it's kinda close, ish.Now you tell me. You can go off people 😉Vile stuff, and marmite. People that eat marmite need locking up for crimes against humanity.
No. Not really. The castle would have been one of the wonders of the north (a term I just made up) but it was dismantled on Parliament's orders very thoroughly after the Civil Wars, as the people of Pontefract petitioned for it to be. (It, and the rascally royalists within, had made their lives incredibly miserable for years). Not been to Pontefract yet! Is it worth a visit?
Coincidentally, yet another gaming cafe has just opened near me in Wakefield. I wonder if it will be as short lived as all the previous ones?I think more gaming cafes that serve food should sell cream teas. 😁 Can't beat a nice scone whilst rolling dice.
Not sure if it's still there as I moved away on 2013 but there was a good place in Liverpool called the Scythe and Teacup that did a mean bacon butty, some of the regulars were a bit odd though, made the fedora neck beard types seem normal.Coincidentally, yet another gaming cafe has just opened near me in Wakefield. That would be a grand idea! Although you will have seen my legions of unpainted minis on here, I am slowly building up my painted Dwarfs. PM me if want to discuss further and exchange contacts? No. Not really. So, what is left is a run down market town.
But maybe we might meet up for a battle sometime? Perhaps if I ever hire the local village hall for a mini-bash event as I used to do pre-covid.
We have a healthy number of gaming centres near Huddersfield (although a few of the gaming cafes have failed in recent years too…).Just a quick comment (maybe).. Back when I was at school and some stuff after that but still being educated (kinda) and did business training and stuff, one of the first things about when you want to get a bank loan, or just want to start a new business without a loan (if you got the money) was "What kind of business do you want to run, did a business like that previously fair in the same or near by location, and why did they fail and what are you going to do different". The answer of 'They just didn't know what they were doing but I'm smarter' isn't a valid reply. yet I do see tons of business opening near or in the same premise as one which failed doing the SAME THING' and often, Oh dear, the same thing happens. Second thing would be 'Is there a competing business near by which will affect your trade'.. this one always confuses me cause there is a local road which is pretty much just estate agents and pubs/bars/cafes/night clubs.. I kinda like the old medieval idea of 'estate agent street', but also confuses me on the whole competing business stuff..
maybe why I don't run my own gaming shop or cafe.. can't make a worse job of it then others though..
Get a designated driver!A gaming cafe is something that seems like an ideal and fun hobby environment, but I have never managed to use one. I have made enquiries, hoping to use them for the big battles in our campaign, but they have never had the table space, or been open long enough. And the thought of having to pack everything up safely, then travel there, then get everything in from wherever the car is parked, in order to unpack everything to play, then after the game pack everything up again and get it back to the car (which invariably cannot park nearby) then travel back to unpack everything ay home is a nightmare.
TLDR - I play at home.
BUT all that said, if ever I wasn't trying to provide both armies (sometimes more than two) and all the scenery etc, and was instead simply turning up with an army to fight someone else (like we used to do at various wargaming clubs) in a one-off game, then yes I would love to use one.
Except, what with the driving involved, I still could not have a beer.
You live in an alternative universe to me. The missus does not do things for me, 'tis the other way around, always and ever more. I see it as my penance for what I presume was a very naughty past life.Get a designated driver!![]()
Challenge her to mortal combat, then when she accepts whip out Mortal Kombat and keep spamming scorpions 'get over here' followed by an uppercut. Then you get your driver. You live in an alternative universe to me. The missus does not do things for me, 'tis the other way around, always and ever more. Or a divorce, one of the two ...Then you get your driver.
Yeah begging might be better.Or a divorce, one of the two ...![]()
