Think every generation tries to imbue the excitement of their hobbies on their kids at some point. Some stick some don't! My three as happy playing card games (Uno) or board games (Talisman, forbidden island). The eldest lad played WHFB (once! 2e blood bath at orcs drift) when about 13, but him + mates all played WH40K and DnD 5e before and after lock down. Thing with GW is the local franchise WARHAMMER shop did a job on the towns yoof, birthday parties paint and games, etc, that either made them hate 'the model product' ( or love it) with GW hard sell tactics and over competitiveness (must have this codex at +£25 a pop, etc, this singular plastic model at +£40). I think imagination, cooperative gaming and story telling doesn't comes into it anymore: meta gaming, and constant updating and short design life etc. However, my kids have started going to a local tgc (pokemon, magic:the gathering etc) and gaming store which is an independant and total antithesis of GW and it's franchise. Supplies GW products but also has all welcome play nights of bloodbowl etc. And hosts official pokemon events for all ages in the community, feels more inclusive, relaxed without feeling your wallet is watched! Trade nights and side of shop for card, board or wargaming. All things to all men (and women) as it were. I just think kids have more choice and take it or leave it these days plus devices and gaming.... If you have children that share hobbies that is great for sure.
Mine doesn't.
