• Welcome to the Golden Gobbo painting competition. If you'd like to read some of the ancient history you can on the Realm of Chaos 80s blog.

This competition is held some years and you'll find threads here describing how to enter and when the competition is running (typically after BOYL each year).

Other than the fame and wonderment of your peers there is often a prize kindly donated and you'll have the wonder of being awarded badges for your profile here.

GG 2026 [Warfork Fantasy Battles] Yellow Toe Nail and Fleabite Worm

This thread is part of the Golden Goblin painting competition 2026. Please see the entry thread for full details.
My Golden Gobbo Experience 2026 entry is my Orc Shaman on Wyvern, from my ongoing [Warfork Fantasy Battles] New Year's resolutions 2025 - The Battle for Arduthrond Glade project.

What I did so far:

Now I started to paint the model, both for Orctober as well as Golden Gobbo:

While Yellow Toe Nail and Fleabite Worm consist of two models (the wyvern and rider, plus the rider on foot; actually three models as the rider is detachable), for Golden Gobbo I enter only the mounted shaman on wyvern, as per the competition guidelines.

For the background story of Yellow Toe Nail and Fleabite Worm, see the Scenario Description.

I tidied up the overspray by brush and gave the base a nice dark bown coat.

I had started to paint the Yellow Toe Nail, when my Deck of Many Colors (by Ninjon) arrived. Flipping through it, I found a card that nearly matched my colors chosen – the yellow was missing, but based on that card I added blue to my palette, a choice I wouldn't have made myself. Already worthwhile, the investement :-)

The wyvern had gotten a coat of gloss varnish two days ago, and was now covered in oil paint.

I used two different greens mixed with violet; one for the scales, the other for the rest of the green areas. The wings got magenta, to give them a "skin hue". The belly section got brown.

After about 40 minutes, I wiped the excess off.
