twisted moon's 2024

i'm expecting disposable income to be limited this year, so the focus is going to be on using what i have, and saving that cash for consumbales such as paint, varnish and glue.
whilst i do have unpainted miniatures that i will no doubt splash some paint on, i also have a fair bit of scenery and terrain, and accumulated rubbish to make more, i suspect that this will be the focus of the year ahead. i also hope i'll try my hand at scratch- / trash-bashing some vehicles.
i've made a start with another habitation for spanglish town.

Sci-fi Habitation6a.jpg

this is a bit posher than the previous ones as it has a second storey.

Sci-fi Habitation6b.jpg

it's the usual shaped card packing with a milliput doors, contact lens case windows, and accessories from blotz, ramshackles games and scotia grendel.

Sci-fi Habitation6c.jpg

i was thinking of having separate flats on the ground and first floor, but decided the layout didn't quite fit that. i'll have a look through my stach of packaging to see if i have something suitable to realise that idea.

continuing my slow project to build the scenario specific terrain pieces for frostgrave, here is the well of dreams and sorrows.

Well1a.jpg
the well itself is mdf, but i'd already made it up and can no longer remember who manufactured it, although i added the card shingles to the roof.

Well1b.jpg
the steps are resin o gauge railway pieces which my beloved's father miscast and then gave to me. the rest of the paving is egg box card.
this brings me to the end of the terrain for the core (1st edition) rulebook, so i can now move on to seeing what is required for the scenarios in the many supplements.

thank you both.

Skaven32a.jpg

i had these ratmen undercoated ready for painting in november, before illness prevented me from painting them.

Skaven32b.jpg

mantic ratkin warriors and citadel plague monk kitbashes on either end, a ral partha ratman champion in the middle and classic 3rd edition command squad musician and standard bearer second and fourth from left (or right, if you prefer).
these are going into a unit of clan rats, or possibly clan skryre warriors armed with two hand weapons.

thank you.
another two storey habitation for splanglish town.

Sci-fi Habitation7a.jpg

not a lot to say about this that wasn't covered in my first post of the year.

Sci-fi Habitation7b.jpg

i'm mostly using odds and ends of emulsion house paint for these.

Sci-fi Habitation7c.jpg

That's some seriously funky green! I do love the home-made look of the buildings though - the contact lens case windows/portholes are great!

I like stuff build from these paper maché packaging things. The only reason I never started using this material for anything is that it is hard to come by... I can't afford to buy new electronics, kitchen machines, printers, etc, only because I want to build a another miniature structure ;)

That's some seriously funky green!

i'm trying to inject some colour into my sci-fi stuff.

The only reason I never started using this material for anything is that it is hard to come by.

the first ones i got were from printer cartridges at work (many years ago).

another ruins terrain tile - the first of some road sections using more of those miscast o gauge railway pieces i showed above.

Ruins5a.jpg

i also used my last (excluding the statues) section of osgiliath ruins and another of the plastic ruin pieces i picked up second hand - also citadel, i think.

Ruins5b.jpg

the crater is vac-formed plastic from amera plastic moldings.

Ruins5c.jpg

additional paving stones from egg box card, then sand and my rubble mix.

some more ratmen, all courtesy of the ral partha europe sale last year.

Skaven33a.jpg

an rpe ratman assassin on the left and then four heartbreaker ratmen weapon crew.

Skaven33b.jpg

second from left is as the sculptor intended, then the original head repositioned, the head from a metal jez goodwin skaven, and finally a head from the warhammer regiments set.

i just received a bunch of miscast resin pieces from someone on a discord server i'm in.

ModelDisplayProducts.jpg

if i've understood correctly (s)he runs a company called model display products (www.modeldisplayproducts.com). on the basis of these 'miscasts', which seem perfect to me, i'd recommend them.

this took far longer than intended, partly because i was really intending on making another sci-fi building but couldn't quite conceptualise how make it look the way i want and then because the weather wasn't conducive to spray painting.

Ruins6a.jpg

anyway, another ruined road section. this time a crossroads that has seen the attention of some heavy artillery.

Ruins6b.jpg

road sections as before, big crater from amera plastic moldings, smaller one scratch built with tinfoil over cardboard, wall section picked up at a show as a job lot with the wh40k sections (also seen above) and extended with cork tile to make it look like the corner of a ruined larger section, rubble pile also from cork.

Ruins6c.jpg

i've now got the bit between my teeth for these ruins, so i'll probably continue with them for a while.

Quite the collection of tiles you've made now.
this makes my 27th square foot of ruined terrain tiles.

Ruins7a.jpg

a straight road section.

Ruins7b.jpg

probably the only unruined section i will make.

Ruins7c.jpg

road as before. a couple of amera plastic molding pieces ( a wall and a barricade), a homemade barricade from corrugated card and bits of resin sprue, and home made craters from cardboard and tinfoil.

Ruins7d.jpg

i didn't bother covering the caters with sand this time, for a slightly different look.

Looking really nice. Could I ask if possible that you add a figure just to give me some sort of size comparison .

square foot so.. 1 foot is just over 30cm ^_^ which is 300mm. But I do find that even if a size is stated, it does help to get a better reference if you can see or have something 'common' (no offense to anyone but showing me a USA coin isn't a good 'common size' thing.. seen that far too often^_^)

I do like those!
thank you.

and you.

i can do that.

Ruins8a.jpg

i took a break from road sections to make this redoubt amongst the ruins.

Ruins8b.jpg

another amera plastic mouldings ruin with warzone trenches.

Ruins8c.jpg

i bought a couple of the target games mutant chronicles warzone battlefield trenches and foxhole sets on discount back in 1999 or 2000. i've used one of the foxholes on a previous tile and decided it was time to use the rest. these are the trench sections from one box.

Ruins8d.jpg

the craters are homemade once again.
