twisted moon's 2020

Brilliant stuff.

thank you.
here're the remainder of the heresy ghouls along with a reaper dark heaven legends nosferatu named mattias the twisted (code 2867 for anyone interested) and a chaos sorcerer's familair to go with one of those repurposed as necromancers last year.

Ghouls3a.JPG

i picked up matthias at a show despite having no real plan for him, based purely on the price. £1.30 was too good to pass up. i'm not sure on the tactical virtue of adding a character to a unit that automatically routs when (not if) it loses combat, but he seems to fit thematically, even if he is a tall chap.

Ghouls3b.JPG

the ghouls are again multi-part and a pain to stick together.
the remaining familiar is the armoured imp. i'm not sure that really fits with this army, so i may repurpose that (maybe as a minor construct for frostgrave) and try and find another beastie for its sorcerer. i did have a look on ebay, but what was available was a bit pricey for my tastes.
anyway, here are all the ghouls together with matthias.

i've made a cemetary for my ghouls to hang out in.

Cemetary1.JPG

the graves are mostly resin pieces from scotia grendel. there's also a plastic citadel tombstone i picked up at a show for 10p sometime ago, a metal one which came with the heresy ghouls, and a genuine stone which inspired the colour for the ornamental stonework. the sign is from the citadel wood plastic tree set; it reads 'morrgarten' for those whose eyesight isn't good enough!

Cemetary2.JPG

just about visible in the centre of the first photo is a disinterred cadaver from heresy miniatures in one of the open graves, also barely visible above.

Cemetary3.JPG

not sure i'll manage any more painting this year, but i won't start the tally until 2020 is done, just in case.

well, i managed to get some more figures painted after all. going back to where it started for me on this forum with the how to oldhammer challenge in 2014: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1840&hilit=scarecrow

Scarecrows2a.JPG

a ral partha crucible pumpkin 'ead with added cocktail stick and wine bottle foil flag in the left and the rest are west wind gothic horror sackheaded killer scarecrows.

Scarecrows2b.JPG

... and another five.

Scarecrows3a.JPG

there's another ral partha pumkin 'ead, the two rutabaga headed ones are graven images, and the remaining two are rapier miniatures, one with a milliput saxophone.

Scarecrows3b.JPG

graven images miniatures are 1:48, but since scarecrows are as big as you build them that's no problem, unlike their other figures. though i'm not sure they're still in production.

here are all ten together:

Brilliant, scarecrows and pumpkins are some of my favourite fantasy creatures. These are great. I've a load of Dyniaq from Spellcrow sitting I my lead pile to do one day, but they are more cartoony than yours. These are perfect WFRP old world nightmares. I might have to consider finding some more like this for my undead army, they just look so wonderfully creepy. I've just thrown my own pumpkins up on my undead thread, but they don't have anything like the fear these evoke.

crooked dice seem to have some nice ones currently in production. if i end up getting more that's probably where i'll start.

here are another five; this time armed with 'spears'.

Scarecrow spears1a.JPG

three rapier and another couple of graven images.

Scarecrow spears1b.JPG

... and here they are with the fifteen i did as part of my contribution to the 'how to do oldhammer' challenge.

at the moment i'm intending that the remainder will all be armed with two-handed weapons, to add to the five i did back in 2014. i need to work on the imagery for another flag and decide what musical instrument will complete my scarecrow jazz trio. i'm somewhat limited by the remaining rapier miniatures poses.

lockdown proved productive for me on the miniatures front: 260 items painted, five pieces of terrain or tiles and my sci-fi gaming mat in 2020. i can't imagine i'll be matching that anytime soon, but then again there's no sign of lockdown ending just yet.
