orctober painting continues with this hhg orc shamen and the first of my marauder miniatures mb02 orc regiment.

the former i picked up from ral partha europe at the same time as the other hhg orc's i've shown over the years, i had no idea he was holding a snotling until i started painting him.

the orc regiment i got at a show a few years ago for £20. we'll see if i can get the rest of the figures finished this month, but i doubt it.

the additional archers arrived last monday; i ordered them from lancer miniatures (https://lancerminiatures.com/). here are the first four painted up, including the command for the second unit. to make up the number on the painting desk i included the champion from the mb02 orc regiment in the batch.

as you can see, the lancer miniatures figures are pretty beefy. they also had an inordinate amount of release agent left on them; i suspect they had been cast to order, but even so they were more phobic to acrylic paint than any other figures i've painted, even after a soapy wash.

here's the second (and final) batch of lancer miniatures orc archers, along with the leader from the mb02 orc regiment.

these complete the second archer unit, so mark another milestone in my efforts to finish my goblinoid army.

I like the blue colour scheme, not one I've seen before and I think the banners are great, whimsical and effective. I think I'd be tempted to try dirtying down the banners a little more so their luminance is a closer match to the models. I've got some of the Lancer orcs in my lead pile so it's really interesting to see them with paint on next to some others. Guess I'll have to see how they stack up against my other orcs. Also good to know about the release agent - might have to break out the etch primer when I finally get to painting them.

Will you treat us to a group shot of all the orcs?

not a bad shout; i'll look at giving them another wash, though it's not as noticeable in reality.

glad to have been of help.

i intend to once the whole force is done, but the same is true of my human mercenaries and wood elves.sidhe which i've finished in previous years and have not yet got around to posting on mass.

here's the next batch of mb02 orc regiment troops;

Orcs for Orctober ... si si , I get it.
But Twisted Moon I have been loving the old-school Dwarves and the unified painting that brings them all together!

Bring them back, please!

well, for the past couple of years november has been the el(e)ven(th) month for me. however, i've completed my sidhe / wood elf force, at least for the time being, so i'll do my best to get some more dwarves on the painting desk before deadcember.
however, i've got a couple of overspill batches to finish first. here's one:

Skaven demons 1a.JPG

i got these grenadier giant ratmen several years ago from ebay, not realising how big they are. since they don't match my prototype for rat ogres, i wondered what to do with them, and decided to turn them into demons for the grey seers to summon.

Skaven demons 1b.JPG

i took a while to realise the idea, even though the final conversions were pretty simple - horns (milliput) and wings (from foundry/warmonger cherubs which came as rammage with the previously shown elven nymphs). despite their size, these are intended as lesser demons, since vermin lords are the main greater demons of the horned rat.

here's a scale shot with the original grey seer, gnawdoom.

I am very impressed with your modelling skills.

thank you. that's very kind of you; i'm not! still, i keep on trying and i'm happy to keep getting figures and terrain completed.

proper oldhammer!

that's certainly what i'm aiming for: the sort of wargames table my twelve year old self wanted.

here's the final table clearing batch. another five mb02 orcs.

nothing more to say about these i haven't already said on previous posts.

as promised, i am now in the process of undercoating some more dwarves, but with this unit being so close to completion i may return to it before the end of 2020.

by popular request, here are some more dwarves.

this, of course, is marauder miniatures' mm13 dwarf siege gun which i picked up shortly after it was released.

i've painted it up to add to my anschlusszwerge.

the cannon and step-stool are attached to the base, whilst the crew can be removed as they become casualties.
i hope you enjoy.

here are some more dwarves; the first half of my anschlusszwerge two-handed weapons unit.

from left to right we have hhg 2009 dwarf champion, grenadier fantasy warriors plastic, citadel (long beard i suspect), metal grenadier from forlorn hope and hhg 2010 dwarf leader.

i particularly like the stone-headed hammer on the dwarf leader.

oxy o'cetylene and tinman join the anschlusszwerge.

i've had this le14 set since around the time of it's release (i may have got it for christmas in 1986). I'd painted it previously but tinman's rear, right, ankle snapped at some point and, since this is the foot with the peg on, they had been abandoned for the intervening years.

i've now drilled and pinned the ankle and also pinned the front left foot into the base.

thanks both.
here's the second half of the anschlusszwerge two-handed weapon unit.

from left to right we have hhg 2040 dwarf champion with great mace, another plastic grenadier figure for fantasy warriors, a citadel champion from the 3rd ed. command packs, hhg 2050 dwarf general and a metal grenadier miniature.

these took a bit longer than expected since i got distracted by another project, which i'll show once it's complete
here's the whole unit.

on to deadcember painting.

Love it all ...

thank you very much.

here's that other project that distracted me:

a home made 9' x 5' game mat for my sci-fi figures to mess about on.
i'd asked my beloved for a 6' x 4' one for chrimbo, but the all the closest matches to my basing scheme were out of stock, so i perused a few youtube videos and she bought me the raw materials to make a much bigger one instead. now it's done it's being tucked away until the big day.
if anyone's interested in which videos i folloowed / adapted, let me know and i'll try to dig out the links.

now i need to modify those tiles into proper roads, base the trees i bought in the spring and make some hills. i also need to build my big table so this has somewhere to be fully deployed.
here's a parting action shot, before the mat's put away.

here're the start of my deadcember efforts.

ghouls from heresy, painted to match the mantic one's i painted back in 2017, and the last part of my heresy order from the start of the year.
these arte all multi;part metal castings, and i found them quite fiddly to put together. they look the business once done though.

the small family group on the right could be based as two separate figures, but i thought they looked better / more disturbing this way.
another three of these to come, along with another couple of figures to make up the painting batch.
