This week I have mostly been painting ....

Harry

Baron
I have collected a whole bunch of stuff over the years. (Current, classic and Vintage)
For one reason or another I have not got very much of it painted ... I mean to put that right.

Over the last few years I have come up with all kinds of projects to motivate me to get stuff painted. The biggest motivation for me has been the wonderful feedback and encouragement I have recieved on the interwebz.

I have a long running thread over in the Warseer fantasy painting logs with the same thread title but I already spend more time on this forum than I do on Warseer so I thought I would start a similar thread here.

On this thread I will post everything I paint and show off some of the stuff I have painted over the last few years as I return to those projects.

This is the latest insanity I have come up help me get stuff painted ... It gives some indication of what you have got coming.

The other day I got to thinking about all my planned projects and how some projects, even ones I am really excited about never get started as they keep getting 'bumped' by the next new project idea I come up with. So I had this idea that I would write them all down and put them in a planned order to do one at a time and try and stick to it. (Good luck with that!)

I quickly realised that if I did this I would not get around to some projects for 10 years!

So I came up with an idea that what I needed to do was to divide all my projects into the year and allocate each project a month and do something for each project, even if I only did a little something towards a project it would keep all my projects moving forwards each year.

When I started to list my projects I thought 'blimey I must have a project for every letter of the alphabet' ... It turns out I nearly did. The only letter of the alphabet I did not have a project for was the letter 'Y' (Knock yourselves out!).

So over the past couple of weeks I have played with this idea and here is my plan. I couldn't cram all of my projects into a year so had to spread them over two years.

I will focus on a letter of the alphabet a month and try and paint as much as I can for the various projects I have on the go or planned starting with that letter.

So this month I will be painting up a few Amazons, a little something from Albion and Araby, some Fantasy Adventurers and some of the Avengers.

Next month ... well you get the picture ....

Obviously there is a fair bit of overlap between some of the 'projects' to give me some flexibility to return to some projects more often than once every two years (and a fair bit of flexibility to throw in random minis that have caught my interest).

Here is the plan:

May A is for Amazons, Albion, Araby, Adventurers and Avengers Assemble (Superheroes)
Jun B is for Bretonnians, Beastmen, Barbarians and Blood Bowl (and maybe some Bondi and Beserkers)
Jul C is for Chaos (Combined Inc: Warbands) Clerics and Castles
Aug D is for Dwarves, Dark Elves, Dungeons and Dragons and also Dark Future
Sep E is for Empire, Elves and Estalians and Elementals
Oct F is for Forest Goblins, Fantasy Fighters and Fiend Factory and Fantastic Four
Nov G is for Giants! Gnomes, Goblins and Ghouls
Dec H is for High Elves, Halflings, Half-Orcs and Hobgoblins
Jan I is for Imperial Dwarves
Feb J is for Jungle Scenery
Mar K is for Kislev, Khorne, Kobolds
Apr L is for Lizardmen, Lustria and the Lost and the Damned
May M is for Men-at-arms, Mercenaries, Monsters, Man-o-War and Marvel (Superheroes)
Jun N is for Norse, Normans, Night Goblins and Nurgle
Jul O is for Orcs, Ogre Kingdoms, Oriental Heroes and Old West
Aug P is for Pirates, Pygmies, Plains Wars and Pre-slotta
Sep Q is for Warhammer Quest / Hero Quest
Oct R is for Regiments of Renown, Realms of Chaos, Rouges and Rangers
Nov S is for Skaven, Snotlings Slaanesh, Slaves to Darkness and SAGA
Dec T is for Tomb Kings, Tzeentch, Tilians, Townsfolk, Tunnels and Trolls
Jan U is for Undead
Feb V is for Vampire Counts and Vikings
Mar W is for Wood Elves, Warriors of Chaos, White Wolves and Wizards
Apr XYZ is for X-Men (Superheroes) Zombie Pirates and Zoats

A is for Amazons

In 1984 Citadel produced a range of Amazons:

They appeared in the second citadel compendium and featured on the Cover:

More pictures when they are done. (Hopefully by the end of the month!)

Good to see your painting thread moved here mate. I was following it on warseer for a long time but like you I spend most of my time here now..

Lovely stash of Amazon's. I have been trying to get a few myself but have managed to only win 1 so far off eBay but I did get a bit sidetracked bidding on skaven this weekend

This will be watched by all..

A is for Araby

Anyone remeber the Arabian Knights?

When I was a boy their was a saturday morning show called The Banana Splits.
Each week there was a cartoon segment ... Tha Arabian Knights:

arabnite1.jpg

The main characters were:

Prince Turhan A young teenaged boy, a Prince and rightful heir to the throne of the Sultan he owns a magic scimitar that he can be thrown and returns like a boomerang.

Princess Nida A lovely teenaged girl, cousin to Turhan and daughter of the Caliph. She can fight, but her real talent comes from her ability to disguise herself and alter her voice to mimic others.

Raseem A tall, muscular man, the token ‘strongman’ of the Knights; also called ‘Raseem the Great’, has the strength of thirty men. He also has a companion in Zazuum; a small donkey.

Fariek A short, tubby little man who is a somewhat skilled practitioner of the mystical arts; His magic can cast illusions, make objects fly and change one thing into another, etc., He often provided the transportation (a flying carpet, etc).

Bez A dark-skinned man who is often portrayed as wearing a turban and green clothing; he is also known as ‘Bez the Beast’, for his ability to transform his body into the form of any animal known to man. He can also transform into mythical creatures like winged horse, Roc. His shapeshifting makes him a handy spy for the knights.

Zazuum A small donkey with long ears, who was Raseem’s companion. Zazuum proved to be a bit of a secret weapon, because if one pulled his tail, it would make the little donkey go berserk; spinning and kicking out like a miniature tornado which can defeat any enemy or destroy any object struck.

I really fancy building these as a little adventuring party for some arabian adventure ...
These are the closest I can come up with so far:

I really need a better Prince Turhan and I am nowhere on the donkey.
(If anyone can suggest a suitable baby donkey miniature I would be most grateful).

Here is all the Araby stuff I have made a start on today and am going to try and get painted this month:

Hello mate.
Good to see you here too.
Nice to find some old friends here.

As it happens I have a few Amazons left over but I have offered Thansants first swing at them because he has an insane Amazon based project on the go ... and I do like to support and encourage other nutters whenever I can....
...But if he does not want them all I may be able to help you out with one or two more?

Nice start of things there. A lot of the really old models can look a little less than inspiring in the metal but even with just an undercoat on it really shows them off as the gems they are. I'm hugely envious of your work rate as well. I wish my own projects came along as quickly as yours.

I was a bout to type the same thing...amazing what a bit of primer can bring out in a figure eh?

Cheers,

LOL
Number 1 ... I am not painting to quite the same standard as you.
Number 2 ... Have you seen the mess I make.
Number 3 ... I am using a brush the size of which you probably don't even have in your tool kit.

This is extreem batch painting and I work at a speed most of the top notch painters around here would find hysterical. Everything above was painted in a couple of hours.

@ Stone cold and Blue
Yes, the primer suddenly lets you see the detail that is not really visible in the raw metal.
I love getting a whole 'ghost' army built and primed on the table in front of me. Just getting them to this stage makes me want to crack on and paint them. as long as they are raw metal they could stay that way forever ... I try and crack open the blisters and build and prime as much as I can ... it communicates an intention to paint if nothing else.

the helldorado range is quite nice, maybe some of them will fit in with your stuff? heres a few bits i did, the genie is very good indeed

These are looking good. I think I've got most of your Warseer threads favorited, but I'll have to follow them here too!

Just one question, shouldn't the skin tone for the Arabians be a bit darker?

Bloody hell, Harry!

If you want to venture outside of the Citadel fold there are quite a lot of fine arabians to be found in the old Metal Magic catalogue. It's almost oldhammer. ;) See mega minis:
http://freeboardgamesnow.com/fantasyarabian.aspx

Don't let the paint jobs fool you, they paint up really really well! Just hurry up, cause they're closing up shop soon. =(

Also, I fully agree regarding the pre-slotta minis and primer. Once primed, they often look great while looking horrible in bare metal.

@ major smith
Stylistically different but ... Well worth a look, thanks.

@ ardyer
Nope .. this is fantasy.
I did try to achieve this with a wash ... it didn't work!

@Phreedh
I will give them a look ... at first glance the sculpts don't look great ... but as you say it may be the paint jobs.

@ Skarsnik
 I will get it done. I am just putting off finishing it as I enjoy it's company.
I will drop you a PM about him.

@fuljason
Thanks very much

A is for Avengers Assemble.

When I was a boy I used to love comics ... Super Hero comics. I used to read Marvel comics ... Spider man, The Hulk the X-Men and The Avengers.

This was my first comic. I still have it.

2433789amazingspiderman.jpg

As you can imagine I have enjoyed the various Super Hero movies over the last few years.

But the best film of the year, in 2012, and without a doubt the best film in the genre so far was Avengers Assemble. (Joss Whedon really knows how to make a cool movies).

avengersmovie1.jpg

Now my boy is really into Super Heroes so I thought it would be cool to play a few Super Hero games with him.

Now as it happens, almost 30 years ago in 1984 Games Workshop produced a Super Hero Role-Playing game called Golden Heroes and in the same year TSR produced Marvel Super Heroes RPG. Now I have both of these along with the earlier Champions RPG. (I was into Role playing games in a big way before I really got into Warhammer)

016bsc.jpg

So I am all set for rules ... I just need some minis.

Now as some of you may know Heroclix has been banging out Super Hero minis for years ... Some of the sculpts are not bad but the paint jobs (They are prepainted) are not that great.

heroclixmarvel1.jpg

So my plan is to pick up a bunch of Heroclix and see if I can't give them a nice new paint job to bring them up to my Table top standard.

So I thought I would make a start with Avengers.

Do that! I only have painted examples of those models that my wife painted and while she paints well for a complete beginner the jobs are not exactly selling the sculpts. =)

Check out this forum for some great pics of the Fantasy models. Unfortunately the Arabian models are not very well painted here either.
http://www.metalmagic.de/

I cannot recommend the models enough. At that price, they're really good value. Sculpts are (sometimes) a bit wonky and Ochmann suffered from the same affliction as the Perry bros; all faces look the same. I'd place Ochmann's sculpts somewhere between Bob Olley and Aly Morrison. Full of character but a bit odd looking.

I can take some comparison shots of my arabian nights models next to some preslotta Citadel if you'd like.
