Hi Harry, keep up the good work.

Sorry if this has been asked hundreds of times before (in my defense, I just had a skim through your Warseer thread in case!), what colours do you use for the skin?

It is simplicity itself. I paint it (at least twice sometimes three times) with THIN Elf flesh. Then a VERY watery wash with dwarf flesh and the job is a good 'un. You can stop there if you like.I have done various rank and file like this and they look fine. However for characters I normally do another shade with some watery dark flesh mixed in with the watery dwarf flesh just to pick out the darkest recesses or especially cut muscles. and finally a usually do another highlight with a bit of white mixed in to the elf flesh

Thanks Harry!

I think I've been relying on washes too much for skin, they usually change the colour of the paint below too much. I'll try watered-down like you mention. I just remembered I have two pots of elf flesh I thought were no good that should be fine with some water and mixing.

Yeah ... I have tried washes without much success. They always seem to be a bit glossy and leave it looking grubby. Great for some things but ... yeah ... I like watered down paint a lot.

You might want to check out enamel washes. They offer much more control over where they are placed and tend to flow only into the recesses.

They have all the downsides of enamels though.
